@gandoff2169 Some thought the extended LOTR films were 5 hours a piece since that was the rumor before the DVDs had come out. But if you were to watch the original trilogy and extended trilogy side by side it would add up to 20 hours or so.

@McCartney. I am not sure what you mean by exaggeration. The LOTR's movies each are roughly 3 1/2 hours long in the Extened version. So at a estimation of 4 hours foor each film, it would be 12 hours of play time. Someone said it would take 20 hours to watch them all. By math, with addition of reel changing time, and credits at the end of the films as "breaks", then it would not take 20 hours of "striaght" watching time which is why I said what I did. So once again, I have no idea what your mean.

@gandoff2169 Exaggeration is a new concept for you, isn't it?
Back on topic, this is pretty exciting news, but I probably won't go. Besides, I probably don't have an AMC theatre near me anyway.

The Blu-ray, extended version is a must have for me. Been waiting a long time for it.

@ghostman I WOULD SO LOVE THAT... I unfortunately waited all the way until the extended dvds to own the films (which adds so much more depth to the films) so i am a little bummed that i am not going to be shelling out for the blue ray extended, so getting them for free, would be bad ass!

Star Wars AND Rings coming back to theatres? Awesome news for cinema buffs. Too bad there are no AMC theatres where I live. :(

@incmob correct, you are! if only they would give away the blu-rays during the movies. That--would be awesome! some kind of contest at the beginning of each movie where they hold a raffle ticket drawing :)

@ghostman it is worth it especially for the 3 hour... err... 3.5 hours of sitting through it.

LOTR Kings edition: that's the one to see. And I got the perfect pillow for my ass to sit through it.

I saw the second and the third in theaters, but I'd be down to view them again, especially the extended versions. I may buy a Blu-ray player just for the LOTR trilogy and the Star Wars saga.

Speechless.
*Just to clear up the confusio: they will NOT be played back-to-back in one day(!) they're being released one day for 3 weeks seperately ppl.*
Anyway, never seen them in theatres, only on DVD, but I will do my best to see them at the show :)
Wow.

If it was close to me, i would do it... You could have breaks between the movies. While credits role, and the movie gets change for the next one. Then you get up to, 30 mins between each film. But they all are not 20 hours long together @jonspidey07. They are more like 12-13 hours together.

kinda back-handed of them to play them back-to-back
my ass would get sore from sitting for 20 hrs if I had an AMC theater showing these movies
why bother when I have the whole trilogy already on DVD?

I'm probably not going to go to this, but it would be fun to see at least one of them.

It would be quite the experience to see these in theaters. I never did...but I doubt I will. There's lots of movies coming out this summer.
I'm surprised they're not being released in 3D lol
