The Karate Kid Remake Starts Production

A brand new remake of an 80s classic is under way in China. According to Associated Press, The Karate Kid, a remake of the 1984 classic, The Karate Kid, started principal photography on Saturday.

Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, is starring in the film as a young kung fu disciple who is trained by a wise martial arts master, played by Jackie Chan. Harold Zwart is directing the film, with Will Smith on board as a producer.

Chan and the Smith's participated in a traditional Chinese ceeremony on Saturday to kick off the start of principal photography. The film is set for a June 11, 2010 release.

The Karate Kid was released June 11th, 2010 and stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Wenwen Han, Rongguang Yu, Zhensu Wu, Zhiheng Wang, Zhenwei Wang. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

    I'm a bit concerned that only one other person noticed that this movie is set to take place in China and not a Japanese locale. Everyone knows that China is known for Kung Fu and NOT Karate. Not to mention that Jackie Chan is a Kung Fu master and not a Karate Sensei. That is why Mr. Miyagi was from Okinawa, OFF THE COAST OF JAPAN!!!!! I would hope that, in wanting to make a remake the writers would at least try to be culturally cognizant of cultural and geographical facts. I have a hard time taking writers and/or a movie seriously when they can't even get the small details correct. You can't call a movie "The Karate Kid" and have it be about learning Kung Fu. They should re-name it the "Kung Fu Kid". This is going to destroy another little part of my childhood. Right along with the Gi-Joe debacle and all of the crappy superhero movies like "The Fantastic 4", the first 4 Batman movies (especially the Joel Schumacher helmed ones) and even "Spider-man" has fallen off pace a bit. Come on fellas, let's put a little effort into these scripts!

    ive never dislike any of jackie chan's movie but this one i have to admit unless the trailers really pulls me in whcih is hard to do im gonna have to pass on seeing it in theaters and wait for a dvd rental or online. and o0cynix0o your are so dead right and thx for the edgamacation lol

    this is one of the stupidest f*cking ideas i've ever heard. this and the footloose remake are rediculous. you CAN NOT recapture the magic of those films. thats why they are classics in the moviegoing lexicon. those movies will be classics for generations to come. and their piece of sh*t remakes will fade instantly into oblivion and obscurity. there is NO reason for these movies to be remade. seriously man. they need to grow some balls in h-town and start making some real movies.

    I'm still trying to figure out who's going to be the villain, he's to young to have any serious opponents. I mean what a f*cking school bully thats 2 years older than him, making him what 13 years old. How can any one take this seriously as a remake of Karate Kid.     Are all who comment negativly stupid? Ok, more brain frezze dumn. This is not a re-make in the any sence, other then a young american kid learns martial arts from a master. First off, Miagi was Japaness guy, who did Karate, while Chan will play chinese doing Kung Fu. Ok martail arts to most white dopes are the same, but the whole idea is only related in a basic way. Young American kid learns martial arts from a Asian master. Might suck, might not, but why people always act like they know what the movie is 100%, yet only talk like they know 20% of the info on it.

This will in no way pay any homage to the original, Will's kid needs to concentrate on his coloring books, NOT ACTING! Jackie Chan, love the guy, despise him for considering this role. He'll never be the Mr. Miagi we all grew up with. This is just plain sad. I hope everyone involved in this dies in a set fire!
