The Inhumans and Guardians of the Galaxy Move Forward at Marvel

The Inhumans move forward at Marvel Studios
After Marvel Studios releases The Avengers, we know Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are coming down the pipe next. Beyond that, Marvel president Kevin Feige reveals The Inhumans, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man may be up next.

Back in March, we reported Marvel is seeking writers for The Inhumans. We haven't heard word yet about any screenwriters being hired yet for The Inhumans, but Kevin Feige revealed the project will be a large-scale ensemble, much like The Avengers. The story centers on a group of aliens who were sent to Earth disguised as humans to assemble the rest of their race and take over their home planet.

We reported last month that Guardians of the Galaxy is also moving forward. Guardians of the Galaxy will be another ensemble, focusing on the last surviving aliens of their kind who journey to Earth to protect the planet. Here's what Kevin Feige had to say about this project.

"There's an opportunity to do a big space epic, which Thor sort of hints at, in the cosmic side of the Marvel universe."

We haven't heard much on Ant-Man recently, but Kevin Feige indicated that Edgar Wright, "developed an excellent draft recently."

It still isn't known exactly which one of these projects will get started first.

The Inhumans comes to theaters in 2013.

Guardians of the Galaxy is in development .

Ant-Man is in development . The film is directed by Edgar Wright.

@ejk1 You make a good point. I imagine it could be a series, provided the first one makes money. Unfortunately given the fate of Scott Pilgrim, that might not happen, through no fault of Wright's, though. Hopefully the Marvel brand would bring people to theatres, and hopefully they would go on a smaller scale and not bloat the budget for an Ant-Man movie.

@shuabert I think you're right for the origin tale, but as we go along Hank Pym's life becomes pretty dark. I kind of look at an Ant-Man film series following the Harry Potter model, where early lightness gives way to later dark. Assuming of course that this would be a series and not just one film.

Yeah, I know we've had this discussion before, but I think an action-comedy is the ONLY way to do a proper Ant-Man movie. It doesn't mean you can't make the character engaging, it just means you embrace the spectacle and silliness of a guy who learns how to shrink himself.

Ant-man is a smart ass of a character. So it could have funny parts. I could see it going the route of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" in a way. So it could be a good movie done right.

An Inhumans movie, done right? Fantastic.

Get a solid spectacle/character balanced director (David Yates, Peter Weir, etc), an ensemble cast of B-list actors with a few A-listers bringing in an audience, get a visual genius like Bruno Delbonnel for cinematographer, with a formidable composer like John Powell working on the score, all combined with a strong script and hefty budget? Damn! I'd be in in a heartbeat.

As for an ant-Man film, I'm still weary of Wright turning it into a comedy, which it really shouldn't be. At least not in the way I see him making it, but I hope he'll surprise me.

It would be great if they could do a Johny Storm/Fantastic 4 cameo in the inhumans movie (the relationship between Johny & Crystal) but since Fox has the FF rights and they generally suck at what they're doing with the material...

@bawnian-dexeus...i think you should be saying as well " hear that FOX "...Marvel Studios knows to take their time, map and plan out their films before jumping into production, not just get it out there as fast as u can for a quick buck, have patience and get it right so that the fans will enjoy it :]

@ejk1 I know man I want a damn good Surfer movie already tha's not produced by Fox, Anyway I want Ant-Man more than anything just because of Wright and he HAS to be in Avengers 2, but Inhumans and Guardians would be great 2.

All I care about is an Edgar Wright-helmed Ant Man movie. He proved with Scott Pilgrim that he has the chops for a comic book film, even if that movie was a commercial bomb.

I love the idea that Marvel is seeking to explore the cosmic side of their universe, but saddened that the two most famous characters of the universe, Silver Surfer and Galactus, are being held hostage by Fox.
