John C. Reilly will be offered a role in The Hunger Games
Haymitch Abernathy is the only person from District 12 to win The Hunger Games in the novel by Suzanne Collins. Now he's a mentor to District 12 contestants Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), although he has become an alcoholic.
It is also said that John C. Reilly was in talks to co-star in Oz: The Great and Powerful as the sidekick to James Franco's title character. It seems those talks have broken down, though, which could be another indication that John C. Reilly will sign on for The Hunger Games.
Gary Ross is directing The Hunger Games from an adapted screenplay by Billy Ray. No production start date has been given yet for The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games was released March 23rd, 2012 and stars Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Lawrence, Willow Shields, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Sandra Ellis Lafferty, Paula Malcomson. The film is directed by Gary Ross.

I haven't read the books but he destroyed Cirque Du Freak so I wouldn't want him to ruin another book character.
