Back in October, Lionsgate hired screenwriter Danny Strong (The Butler) to write the screenplays for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. What wasn't reported at the time was that Lionsgate had a provision in the writer's contract that his deal for the second part was contingent on studio approval of his Part 1 script. Today we have word that his The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 screenplay has been completed and approved by the studio, and he is starting work on the franchise finale.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence has already been confirmed to direct both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

What isn't ultimately clear, at this point, is where the split between the last two movies will occur. Be warned, there will be some slight spoilers for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire from this point on. The final book in author Suzanne Collins' trilogy follows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) leading all of Panem's 12 districts in a rebellion against the corrupt Capitol.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 comes to theaters November 21st, 2014 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 comes to theaters November 20th, 2015 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.

@thedude-abides Jeje. If I can explain myself, I could care less if the scrip is finished or not. It doesn't seem worthy of news. I'm sure they all have their sh*t together and really, I can just settle for trailers, set pictures and marketing. But announcing the completion of a script, meh.

A little quick? Yeah maybe. But at least they have more than a basic outline and still have plenty of time to spruce it up. Hopefully the last two don't turn into some long, drawn-out mess.

I love that Danny Strong, the nerdy guy from Buffy and Gilmore Girls, went on to become a celebrated screenwriter. That just makes me smile.
