"Finding Nemo" came in second place with an equally impressive $20.5 million estimated take in its fourth week. The Disney/Pixar animated movie proved its staying power once again, dropping only 27.7% from last week, averaging $6,032 in 3,404 theaters, bringing it's total to $227.9 million.
"Alex and Emma" came in 7th place in its opening weekend grossing an estimated $6.2 million. The Rob Reiner film, starring Luke Wilson and Kate Hudson took in an average $2,701 in 2,310 theaters.
The weekend's third new movie, "From Justin to Kelly" didn't fare as well. The "American Idol" movie starring last year's winner Kelly Clarkson and runner-up Justin Guarini didn't even crack the top 10, coming in 11th place with an estimated $2.8 million in its opening weekend. The movie wasn't screened for critics, which Clarkson supported saying this movie was for the fans and not critics. Apparently, the huge fan support for the TV show didn't cross over to the film very well.
