I think this not only links the two parts together but also to the LOTR movies. Its a good angle to take in marketing it as well as satisfying passionate fans of the Hobbit and LOTR. Although, @diaigma you make a good point :)

Since the book is being made into two films, there will be a need to create a title that connects them, such as what was done for LOTR. But in the LOTRs, the three titles was from each section of the books. But "The Hobbit" is the name of the book, and A hobbits tale is what Bilbo names the book tailing his story in LOTRs. Myself, I like both names. But I also have a hard time feeling they are a right fit. I personaly think "The Hobbit: A hobbits tale" should be the name of both films, and dubed Part One and Part Two, such as the last Harry Potter film. Couse its not a new film, or a diffretn story. Its a continuation. Just as LOTR's was still LOTR's, but had the sub names couse that was the sub names given to thos parts of the complete story, which is in 6 books. And eaver two books is the story of each section of LOTR's sub title.

It would make more sense if the titles were switched, don't you? I mean, he doesn't go "back again" at the end of the first of two parts : /

    Good titles...
@insertusernamehere: I like "AN Unexpected Journey" too.
However, "THE Unexpected Journey" fits better with "THE Fellowship of the Ring," "THE Two Towers," and "THE Return of the KIng," Then again, The Hobbit is... "a hobbit's tale."
