@skywise Yes, the trilogy is by Weis and Hickman.

@dan1 ROFL yes...the death in final Chronicals installment (which i wont ruin) because you just dont see it coming actually brought me to tears. I cant say LOTR ever did that. But you can kind of tell the path Sturm is taking...its subtle but its that Knights of Solamnia live by the sword die by the sword attitude.
Anyway, that sounds freaking amazing! Is it going to be Wies and Hickman? Get those 2 back together and will read anything they put out.

And um... hopefully they do it several years from now, because we just revealed some big ass spoilers if they do it :P

@skywise Sturm's death is definitely a shocking, bold turn the first trilogy took. Did you know they started a new trilogy, that covers the War of the Lance from the bad guy's perspective? It's called The Lost Chronicles.

@dan1 I know your absolutly right and after the Dungeons and Dragons Debacle it might be a while before any studio wants to revisit a (then TSR) Wizards of the Coast property. I read these aroudn the time i read Pern and LOTR. I was really into the fantasy genre when i was in Jr High and High School. You are right, there are too many comparisons to LOTR but the unique parts of that series are extremly unique and the series is very well paced. I Love Dragons of Winter Night the best...I will never EVER forget the demise of Sturm on the Fortress Walls at the hands of his ex-lover Kitiara as Luarana looked on in horror.
God i want those movies so bad but as i have said the books DO have a few technical problems but i revisit them every 4-5 years just as i do LOTR.
What i am trying to say is, yes you make perfect sense and i know your right...its the nostalgia and the fanboy in me that wants to argue your points but...alas...i cannot.

Knowing the Industry they'll cram it down our throats until We've had more than enough. Then start piling it up over our heads.

@skywise Takhisis, that was it, thanks. Knew it started with a T. Was just too lazy to look it up lol. Think about this, though... we've got The Hobbit coming up, and as we all know, Smaug plays a pretty big role in it, being the huge dragon he is. Then we've got these Dragonriders of Pern in the pipeline, another How to Train Your Dragon movie, another possible Eragon movie, and who knows what else concerning dragons. The point being is the market will be saturated with them for the time being. I like them, too, (maybe not as much as @moviewiz001, but then, nobody on the site likes them as much as that guy lol), and I know it's a long time coming, but maybe another 10 years should pass before we see that Dragonlance series come to life. Those would be pretty tech. heavy movies, with all the sorcery n' dragon battles as you said, and it would give the market and masses time for dragons to be fresh again.
I just wouldn't want to see people bash it for being a supposed copycat of Tolkien's work. You're right, most modern fantasy (DL is modern in comparison) takes from him, but it's also good to space things out as to not overcrowd a singular theme in a short amount of time. Does any of that make sense? I want to see it as much as you do, maybe more, but now just doesn't seem like the right time.

It was due to this video displaying the fine work Peter and company gracefully shared with us, that motivated me to finally create a profile to leave a comment...Fantastic glimpse of what will soon come to life onscreen...I thoroughly enjoyed the ten minutes. :)

@dan1 Those Blockbuster movies were animated pretty terribly and very truncated. I only watched the first one and it was pretty horrible. I would recommend skipping those.

oh and it was Takhisis ... the evil queen. There was also an old wizard type who died and came back just like LOTR but Fizban ended up being a GOD himself. Yes there are a lot of parallels to LOTR but again that can be said for almost any Fantasy series written after LOTR.

@dan1 Well yes there is unfortunatly comparisons for most fantasy when put up against Tolkein, the guy practically invented modern fantasy but but but....DragonLance has a heavy focus on Dragon battles and wicked magic with awesome side characters like Dalamar and Lord Soth. Holy sh*t just saying that last name brings back memories.
Dragonlance might be compared to LOTR but that is sort of a good thing isnt it?

Still not sure I like the idea of the whole 48fps thing but, news and videos like this just remind me of how much passion the whole crew and especially Jackson have for these projects and therfore my confidence in them to produce something truly special. The blocking of the Unexpected Party made my day! I'm going to try not to watch any more of these brilliant blogs for fear of spoiling the nostalgia of Middle Earth when I see this on the London IMAX on opening day! "six more weeks of pre-production? No no no lets just start shooting!" awesome!

Oh man he did it again with these video of the work in progress. If you guys remeber he did the same thing with King Kong, only Peter could make this film nobody else. This is a dream come true for me !

@skywise The only real problem I can see with a Dragonlance series is the inevitable comparisons to Lord of the Rings. Instead of the fellowship, it's the companions, instead of Sauron, it's that evil goddess, whose name eludes me at this moment.
However, a series based on Caramon and Raistlin's trilogy could easily work, as could the War of Souls trilogy. They differ enough to be their own thing. I guess its just Chronicles that would feel like a rip off.

@skywise Yep. a Dragonlanc film, with a someone like Guillermo Del Toro at the helm, would be sick.

@skywise Lol!! I remember Dragonlance. I read like 50 of those books. The main storyline ones, and several spin off series. I always liked Raistlin, he was a bad ass sorcerer. I used to have an annotated copy of the Chronicles, and it was fascinating to read how the series started out trying to faithfully follow D&D rules with its world, but they eventually dropped that idea and ran with their own thing. God, it has been ages since I've read all those, it might be time for a refresher. Some epic battles in a few of them.
They did do an animated movie for Dragonlance a while back, and I believe Lucy Lawless and a few other fantasy genre alumni lent their voices. I never saw it, but saw the dvd while browsing at Blockbuster a few years ago.

@zender I love the Elder Scrolls but i really have been wanting to see a Dragon Lance movie done right. The Chronicals and Legends series while having certain technical issues are great stories about well fleshed out characters. Its old school but hell, not as old as LOTR.

This could very well be the movie event of my lifetime.
@narrator I agree completely. There so much passion almost to the point of shameless indignance that proves Jackson, and his cast and crew, are there to make art, not money. I think Tolkien would be proud.
