The Hobbit Shooting for Two Years Says Evangeline Lily

Director Peter Jackson is in the midst of production on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again in New Zealand. According to actress Evangeline Lilly, who plays Tauriel in both adventures, the back-to-back shoot will take two years to complete.

"I still have to go back for five more months of filming. (I've been there) on and off for the past six months. It's a two-year shoot in total for both films, and my contract had me blocked off for about a year. I come in and out of New Zealand throughout that year."

She also spoke more about her character Tauriel, a Mirkwood elf who appears to be quite dangerous.

"Yes, she is a warrior. She's actually the head of the Elven guard. She's the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she's lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn't want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel."

Evangeline Lilly also revealed she shows up near the end of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but has a larger role in The Hobbit: There and Back Again

"She's not in the first film very much. She comes into the first film near the end, and has a very small part to play. Her role in the second film is much more involved. Although, I have to say, when I first read the scripts and took the job, she had a lot less going on in the second film. I think the role is becoming a bit more demanding than I had expected it to be. There's a lot more for me to do now, which is a lot of fun, but it's a little more pressure."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again comes to theaters December 13th, 2013 and stars Ron Perlman, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Kiran Shah, Billy Connolly.

I don't like the idea of this character and the cast of Lilly at all. But at least she is Tolkien fan.
And no, she won't have any relationship with Legolas. It was said by Peter Jackson himself.

@narrator Exactly. I forgot that our taste in wimmens was exactly alike. Great minds, great minds.

@ejk1, she's pretty nice (I'm kidding, she's amazing). But I tend to go for the people with rather unusual and/or unique faces or characteristics. Upton just seems like I've seen her somewhere before on the street in Waikiki. A tourist, undoubtedly.

Maybe that's what @dan1's getting at. On a hotness level, sure, she's fine with a capital F. But in terms of beauty and uniqueness, my girl Portman pwns EVERYONE.

@dan1 Not typical to me. She isn't rail thin like some of them. But I see your point.

@ejk1 Eh... she's pretty good (while we're being unrealistically picky lol), but she didn't play Black Widow or a character from one of the best Damn shows ever to grace television. Kinda has a typical Victoria's Secret model look to her.

@dan1 ScarJo>Lilly by small margin. But Kate Upton > All.

@narrator ScarJo>Bullock. But for me, ScarJo=Lilly. But maybe ScarJo>Lilly. Dunno.

  10. The Narrator: The Better Man

@dan1, I can see that. Bloom's 2001 to 2006 career was pretty solid with financial success throughout, and half of them being critical successes as well. After that, though, he definitely started choosing crappy work.

And Reynolds lost ScarJo, while Monaghan lost Lily... men these days; they're outside of their minds. Trading ScarJo for Bullock? Ugh, I feel sick.

@ejk1 Hence why I said 'wanted', not want. He lost out Ryan Reynolds big time.

@narrator Semi serious, with a tinge of envy.

@dan1 Yeah, but then they broke up, and all was right with the world.

Lilly looks great. Should be a frontrunner for any Wonder Woman film. Very glad she didn't retire when Lost ended like she said she was going to.

@dan1, lol. I freaked when I found out that the two of them were freaking engaged. I was like, wtf? I'm on the same damn island, too!

And are you being serious about Bloom's resume? Can't tell. :P

@narrator I already wanted to punch Charlie/Monaghan for getting some in real life, don't give me ideas/reason to hate Bloom more :P (actually I don't hate him, he's got a great resume).

Nice update. What do you think @dan1, @bawnian-dexeus. Think that her character will get any action with Legolas? If so, he's one lucky SOB.

I have a hard time thinking this is going to take 2 years to film. It only took slightly of 1 for all three LOTR's films, not including some re-shoots before each film was finalized.
