The Hobbit Photos with Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf!

Three new official photos have debuted from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is currently shooting in New Zealand and set for release on December 14, 2012. Click on the photos below to access our gallery, and take a look at the captions below the photos, with quotes from director Peter Jackson.

Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit

Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins)

"He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet. "I think he's got the biggest hobbit feet we've had so far. They're a little bit hard to walk in, but he's managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait."

Ian McKellen as Gandalf in The Hobbit

Ian McKellen (Gandalf)

"He's in fantastic form. In a way, his role in The Hobbit has more technical difficulties than Lord of the Rings did, because he has scenes with 14 smaller characters - obviously the dwarves and the hobbit are shorter... I remember saying to him [laughs], 'Look, this isn't Waiting for Godot or King Lear. The Hobbit. This is the real thing."

"There's no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these, When we were going through the schedule for The Hobbit, I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we'd be shooting for 254 days. We're only 12 days short of The Lord of the Rings even though we're only doing two movies. When I saw that, I had to sort of pick myself up off the floor and carry on."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

I haven't read the hobbit, and i don't plan to read it until i see the movies. I did the same with lotr, i saw the movies and then i read the books. I got to tell you guys, thank god that Peter Jackson decided not to include in LOTR the character Tom Bombadil. I for one think that Tom is retarded, that man always sings.

@k-man thanks for figuring that out. You have a great memory, that video came out weeks ago! The only one that I thought I knew was Richard Armitage as Thorin, but thats probably cause besides Martin Freeman, he's the only actor that I know who they are. Can't wait to see more pics from this!!!

@equialuv - Nevermind, I got it figured out.... The two on the left, starting with the one closest is James Nesbitt as Bofur and the one next to him farther back in the background is William Kircher as Bifur (those two I'm sure of). The one in the center IS also *definitely* Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). The one's on the right, however, are a little more difficult. Judging by the seating arrangement in the Making Of (which I had backwards before) the one with the white beard is almost certainly Gloin, which is Gimli's father (Definitely NOT Mark Hadlow at Dori). The only one who I'm not so sure of is the one peaking his head out by the paper.....if the arrangement stayed the same as it did in the Making Of, then that should be either Balin or Dwalin (but it doesn't look like either actor, at all, with or without makeup).

OH MY GOD, THIS IS AMAZING!!! I wish the dwarves in the background were a little more clear, though!

@equialuv - Yeah, that would be nice......but I can all but guarantee that the dwarf in the center looking at Bilbo is Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. I'm also pretty sure that the dwarf who's head is kind of poking around the corner right by the paper in Bilbo's hand, is Aiden Turner as Kili. He looks like one of the youngest, plus resembles Aiden the most......also, if you watch the first episode of the "Making Of" Peter tells Aiden that Kili will be "right there on the corner". It makes sense for another reason because the dwarf with the white beard, who I thought could possibly be Dori (Mark Hadlow), is in the right place too. In the Making of Peter says it would go, Kili, Fili THEN Dori.....and it looks like there could be one dwarf between Kili and Dori. So, I think the one with the white beard is, in fact, Dori. Plus, there is the fact that Dori will definitely have a white beard because in the Making of, Dori is the dwarf who Peter walks in on during a dress fitting. When he walks in he says "OHHH Hadlow!!" (Mark *Hadlow*)You can see he has white hair.

Other than that, I'm not so sure. Hell, I'm not even sure about all that I just said, it's just an educated guess.

The only thing that *looks* to be a little disappointing is that Thorin and Kili both dont look to have prothetic noses or cheek bones like Gimli had in LOTR. You can clearly see the fake nose on "Dori", though.

Hopefully that's not the case in the final film, or perhaps the pic is just blurry and hard to see, because the Nose, cheeks, ears and eyebrows come as a package that truly make the dwarf "look" complete.

I'm so glad that everything has come together. We get Peter Jackson directing and Ian McKellan back as Gandolf! Awesome! I know this is a bit older news, but It just finally feels like Lord of the Rings will be complete. It's annoying that The Hobbit will be split up into two parts, and almost worse that they each get there own title instead of Part 1 and Part 2, but I am just so excited and cannot wait for this!
