This makes the film one of fifteen movies that have reached the milestone joining Avatar, Titanic, Marvel's The Avengers and many more. Peter Jackson's The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King also holds the 6th spot on the list.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug comes to theaters December 13, 2013 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again a year later on December 17, 2014.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was released December 14th, 2012 and stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

less than 10 years ago, the Billion Dollar Club was exclusive to three films. NOW, its 6 times that and in the top 20 highest grossing films, 2 are original (finding nemo and avatar) and half are released in 3d.
