Nice to see that Elijah Wood hasn't aged at ALL! :-)

@narrator aha! I understand. Sorry for the misinterpretation.

@rudy Yes. Their experiences turned them into who they was, just like me and you. Saruman was not evil from the start. He turned as his greed, fear, and lust was tasted and fueled.

Haha, @skywise. I know Gandalf often visited Bilbo and was likely referring to how Baggins hadn't aged since last they'd met. After all, he knows Frodo well enough, so he clearly visited Bilbo often. You misunderstood me, dear friend. I was referring to Elijah Wood. I was going to comment on how young and innocent he still looks as Frodo despite all these years, that the quote summed up my thoughts perfectly.
Thanks, @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx. I felt it was a rarely seen screen shot of a rather awesome moment in the film.

Gandalf as well as all the wizards of the circle come from a race of immortals known as Istari. Their bodies however, are in the sence, aging at a very slow rate. Coming into Middle Earth 2k years before LOTR's, when Mirkwood was not touched with darkness and known as "Greenwood the Great", they already looked as old men. Able to feel all emotions as a man, from greed to joy, this added to who they was. With his love of Hobbits, Gandalf befriended Bilbo when he was still a young one, in the eyes of their kind, yet not a child in the least. And time to time, visited as he traveled. In the Silmarillion, and other works, it was shown Gandalf suspected Sauron and Saruman becoming "partners". And the Hobbits' story, was set up, to kill the Dragon Smaug, to keep him from joining the evil forces, when the war would come. For he would be a powerful ally for the evil one and burn Rivendell. So he came and went with his travels for the truth on the dealings with Mordor and the Circle's Tower with Saruman. Did not stay long, no more than a few days at a time. But he knew Frodo and other young Hobbits wells.

@narrator Maybe he hadn't aged a day since Gandolf's last visit which was many many years after the close of the events in the Hobbit.
I mean if they were great old friends you'd think the wizard would visit from time to time.

@ChiRep-1 I am guessing it is going to be told through flashbacks while Frodo reads the book Bilbo wrote. Or discovering there was "more to the story."
To answer your question, Frodo doesn't exist at that point.

Pardon my lack of knowledge for the source material, but how does Frodo exist in this time period?
