The Hobbit Blu-ray release slated for mid-2013 debut
One of the special features included on this home video title will be a New Zealand tourism featurette, directed by Peter Jackson. Here's what Kevin Fowler had to say about making the international community know this Middle Earth adventure was shot in New Zealand.
"Internationally, we really want people to make the connection the The Hobbit films were filmed here in New Zealand. Our research has found that there is a very high level of awareness to that fact, which is much broader than in what might be called... the geeky community."
In 2004, one year after The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King was released, surveys showed that 6 percent of all New Zealand tourists had made the trip because of The Lord of The Rings movies. Kevin Fowler hopes to match this numbers for next year, after The Hobbit is released.
"If that was to happen next year, we'd have 150,000 people floating around the country because of the first Hobbit film, which is great."
We don't have a concrete release date for The Hobbit's Blu-ray and DVD as of yet.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was released December 14th, 2012 and stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

@hooky89 well you know they update their database when they damn well please. Wouldnt surprise me if he dropped out, the movie comes out without him and they still show him as an active cast member here.

Good. Enough time to make the DVD/Blu-Ray and put all the special features in. Hope there will be an Extended Cut of this movie just like how there was one for each "LOTR" movie. I'm TOTALLY up for a 3-1/2 hour movie! :-)

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Arrives on Blu-ray in Mid-2013!"
Nice exclamation mark there at the end. After all, who could have possibly imagined that a movie would release on home video within about six months of its theatrical release?! That surely was the key piece of info to take away from this.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that there are a few inaccuracies in this post: Saoirse Ronan dropped out of The Hobbit awhile ago. Additionally, Kevin Bowler is the head of Tourism New Zealand, and the conference was in Queenstown (NZ), not Queensland (AUS).

Its a liitle to early to talk about DVD/Bluray release when the second trailer isn't even out yet. Which I'm still waiting for by the way. Still I'm totally excited for this film saga. They need to both bring out the second trailer and a new poster featuring Smaug the Dragon.
