Benedict Cumberbatch joins The Hobbit cast
The casting was supposed to be a secret, and, although Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed signing onto the cast, he would not divulge any details on who he is playing. Later, Martin Freeman was embarrassed that he let the cat out of the bag.
"I knew I was a big mouth, I didn't know how much of a big mouth, and I've ruined everything. And now I might not have a job to go back to!"
The Hobbit is currently in production in New Zealand, under the direction of Peter Jackson.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

That doesn't really mean jack if he didn't spill the beans on whom he'd be playing.

I was VERY skeptical of Sherlock when Moffat decided to do a modernized version of the story but damn was i wrong. It is absolutly fantastic. Both him and Freeman were outstanding so this is great news to me. Awesome casting going on in this movie.
However, whenver i look at Freeman i just cant help but see ARthur Dent...now when i read those books which i do every so often i realize that he was perfet for that role. Freeman is a very underated actor but i suspect that is all going to change.

"Benedict is a magnificent exotic animal as an actor ... He doesn't look like a normal person; he rarely plays normal people.

Never heard of the guy, but as long as things are going well with the Hobbit I'm all for it.

Awesome! He is great on Sherlock, and was great in Boyle's Frankenstein play. Great news.

@corey Mine too. I'm disappointed now after hearing it's only limited release. That sucks.

@thedude-abides Just realized now it was only a limited-release film. You know what that means? It better be online quick (hopefully at least by the end of June, possibly midway) so I can see that sucker. Its my first BIG anticipation of 2011.

@dan1 F*ckin' Tree of Life isn't coming out where I live. I'm gonna try the next town over to see if they have it. Assuming they do, look for my review late friday or sat.
