The Grudge 2 Takes The Top Spot At The Box Office
The Departed kept in the competition remaining at the top as well, in second place. Taking the box office on Saturday and Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo, it finished with $18.6 million; but it couldn't overtake the $10 million The Grudge 2 on Friday. That takes the Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Mark Wahlberg suspense thriller to $56.6 million.
Robin Williams is elected President of the United States in the comedy, Man of the Year; the film debuted in third place with $12.5 million. It also stars Lewis Black, Christopher Walken, and Laura Linney, and it's directed by Barry Levinson.
Sony Animation's movie, Open Season kept the hunters coming taking fourth place and $11 million over the weekend. That brings the three week total up to $59.1 million over three weeks; the voice actors include Martin Lawrence, Debra Messing, Ashton Kutcher, and Billy Connelly.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning had fans freaking out for a fifth place finish at $7.7 million. Jordana Brewster stars in the prequel to the horrific true story of a family of killers in the Lone Star State; in two weeks, it's made $30.4 million.
John Cena becomes The Marine in sixth; the action thriller has the WWE superstar, Cena, on the trail of Robert Patrick and his team who have kidnapped Cena's wife. In the debut weekend, the flick brought in $7 million - a very impressive total.
Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher are Coast Guard rescue swimmers in The Guardian; the film finished in seventh place over the weekend, making $5.8 million for a three week total of $41.1 million.
The comedy, Employee of the Month starring Jessica Simpson, Dane Cook, and Dax Shepard took eighth place. It brought in $5.6 million this weekend to ring its tally up to $19.9 million over two weeks.
The indie One Night with the King surprised everyone with a debut in ninth place and $4.3 million. The FoxFaith released drama follows the life of Queen Esther as she saves the Jewish people.
Rounding out the top ten, Jackass Number Two with $3.3 million this weekend. Johnny Knoxville and his stunts and gags have been the surprise of the fall bringing in $68.3 million in four weeks.
The Grudge 2 was released October 13th, 2006 and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amber Tamblyn, Arielle Kebbel, Takako Fuji, Edison Chen, Sarah Roemer, Matthew Knight, Misako Uno. The film is directed by Takashi Shimizu.
