The Green Lantern Confirmed to Film in Sydney

It seems a new superhero film will take its production down under. According to the Mt. Druid Standard, Green Lantern will be filming in Sydney Australia later this year.

New South Wales premier Nathan Rees announced that filming would take place at Fox Studios in Sydney, with pre-production to start in July and principal photography to commence in November.

"The production is expected to employ 500 people at any given time, including 100 performers, 200 crew and thousands of extras," Rees said.

"Securing this movie will ensure skilled film crews stay in NSW. Films such as this invest heavily in the local economy and (have) flow-on effects for local services such as transport, construction and the hotel industry."

Green Lantern is set for release on December 17, 2010.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

Why this before Wonder Woman for the next live-action from DC? That's my only gripe. Nothing against Green Lantern, I just feel that WW deserves her due respect by coming out before GL, she's the last of the A-tiers that hasn't had a film done yet.

well I hope they actually cast someone as hal jordan before hey start lol, and of course its going to be effects heavy movie, look @ his powers, I dont think that this movie could have been made 10 years ago without it either looking cheap/cheesey, or just way too expensive, much more than now. and for people who dont know who Hal Jordan is, he is not the first green lantern, but the best and most popular.

This could go either way. I'm a big fan of the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, though it would be cool if some of the others from Earth are in the film. Its just like Iron Man in that it lends itself to really dynamic special effects, and my worry is that they spend more time showing how cool his powers are, and less on why he's a great hero. Though the details aren't really out , its a safe bet that the villain will be Sinestro. I'm hoping for it actually, because Sinestro ties right into Hal Jordan's Green Lantern origin, so they could do both together and make a cohesive storyline.

Lock and stock, Legion was the villain in the original script, the one they are theoretically using. It's very similar to Emerald Dawn, and possibly has a similar plotline to the animated film this summer..

Nope, i think they have balanced it just fine, they start shooting sometime in November for a four month shoot finish february and begin editing then and finish and begin promoting in may they have 5 months of promoting and you have one big movie.

The script can't take all that long to write.

    Hmmmm.
This film doesn't sound too good it sounds like it being dramatically rushed from pre-production pharse to production phrase to meet a 2010 christmas deadline.
It will probably get post-poned, they are spending like 3 months writing the script, then principal photography and filming probably start in Dec 2009

Youre rite dude on something's, it's only april and the company is still in production theyll start advertising around july probably tie-in with TROTF cameron and spielberg being buddies and all, and then we'll probably be all buying real-d glassess and rushing ourselves to the nearest 3d theater.

Don't forget there's also dvd's and sh*t still to come thereafter and HD 3D tv's on their way why not tie-in with the avatar movie...i'm thinking they will turn up a hell of a profit.

We're not talking about movies being "awesome" we're talking about movies making enough money in order for it to make a decent profit. Avatar in the end will cost WELL OVER 200 Million dollars. It HAS to hit and hit BIG in order for the studio not to consider it a failure

"The Polar Express" was something no one had ever seen before and only as a result of subsequent re-releases did it turn a 15 Million dollar profit domestically. That argument doesn't exactly hold much water. But don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Avatar because I haven't seen anything from yet. BUT saying things like......

"AVATAR will still be a success because nothing like this has ever been done before and personally i thought titanic was a load of overated sh*t. "

    and

"We haven't heard anything about AVATAR yet, wait for july to arrive that's good time to start marketing, don't forget it's james cameron if anyone he will find a way to turn up a profit. "

......is only causing more and more HYPE and too much hype can REALLY kill a film.
