"We tried really hard, and Steven (Spielberg) said, 'Let's do it.' We had a lot of young writers submit work, but it just didn't seem to call for it," Donner said.
Donner did hint at another way this franchise might be revived. "I'm in the process of trying to get it done as a musical on Broadway. Wouldn't that be great?"

I want to see a sequel but on the big screen, not as a musical that's terrible. I also don't want to see an animation. I think it should be the kids come back from college and go on an adventure (except Josh and Kerri's character's since they're older). Either that or have their kids all get together and go on an adventure (and have Josh and Kerri's characters married). I think it would be cool if they do something similar to what either they originally did or their kids go on a similar adventure after hearing the stories. I think they could have it where they get tired of hearing their parent's stories but then end up on a similar adventure and are able to get out of bad situations during their adventure because they remembered what they were told.

Yea! There was no need for a sequel. Thank you. A Musical though...that's a neat idea. Instead of crappy sequels, they should make musicals instead!
And no, I'm not a musical hater...unless it's as annoying as Hairspray.

-No.....In answer to whether it'd be great as a Broadway Musical.
I can't believe they waited so long to even conceive a sequel in the first place, and with both Anne Ramsey (Mama Fratelli) & Sloth (John Maszack?) dying within 4yrs after the original, it'd be weird.
Only Josh Brolin (Brand) & Sean Astin (Mikey) had real careers after this, and Corey Feldman's was short lived.

Thank god. I loved the original (even though I think it's as corny as hell when I see it now), but a sequel would've been pathetic. The musical should follow the film, and be put to rest too. It's such a pathetic idea it's almost laughable. Almost.

Err
this is a good day for movies that won't be made.
they had no business trying to make a goonies sequal anyway, that was just a terrible idea.
