The Goonies 2 Moving Forward?

UPDATE: Curtosy of Corey Feldman's Blog, we have word from the original Goonie himself that this rumor is not true. Here is what Feldman had to say: "I have read the new rumor on Goonies 2 and all I can say of that is I have checked my sources and as for now it still does not exist. Sorry Clint, I guess you better check your source. However I would love to be proven wrong."

Is a long-gestating sequel about to happen? According to a new story, it definitely is. Moviehole is reporting from an annonymous source that Warner Bros. is not only setting up a The Goonies 2 film, but it will be a theatrical tentpole release as well. Here's a snippet from the article.

"A source at Warner Bros has since confirmed this - saying they are developing it as a major movie, but won't share anything other than that. Nothing we didn't already know though."

The arcticle also mentions that there are writers on board, although they are not named and a director or casting choices have not been revealed either.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on this new release as soon as we get more information.Corey Feldman's Blog

The Goonies 2 is in development and stars Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan, John Matuszak. The film is directed by Richard Donner.

@Todd89, you may have confused Corey Feldman with Corey Haim, who died months ago.

I thought one of the Goonies died some time ago.
It may feature the children of the original cast.
I've seen the first one over ten times and I still like it.

This sounds like a bad idea. The charm of the first Goonies movie relied on the fact that these children were on an adventure for pirate's gold. If we follow the same cast, only older, it kind of feels like a National Treasure type movie, and kind of goofy. If we follow other children, or their children, then it feels like a remake. This just seems unnecessary.

rent it sometime, its a reasonably fun adventure type movie, and it reeks of the 1980's.

  13. Err

    i think it's a bad idea.
then again i was never a huge fan of the original.

i liked it, but as soon as i found out just how much it was beloved by other people i realized that i didnt really like it that much.

i don't know, maybe if someone jumps into a time machine and goes back to 1987 it might seem like a good idea, but off hand im not into it.

At first I was hyped about Goonies 2, but now I'm starting to have doubts about it...Even if it's a major movie, it still doesn't mean sh*t. I guess we'll have to see what happens next.

The Goonies is one of my favorite childhood movies. It's only worth doing if the entire cast comes back, but not as cameos. It would be cool to see them all together again as adults.

they should bring back the originals along with donner to direct, it could work, and Spielberg would not direct it, he didn't do the first and wouldn't do the second
