The Ghost Writer Will Premiere at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival

According to The Hollywood Reporter, incarcerated director Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer is going to have its premiere in competition at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.

Polanski shot the thriller in Studio Babelsberg outside Berlin and then finished it while in prison in Switzerland. It stars Ewan McGregor as a ghostwriter that is hired to pen the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan). After starting work, he discovers a dark secret that puts his life in danger.

Polanski is currently under house arrest at his chalet in the Swiss ski resort of Gstaad.

The Berlin jury's decision to screen the film is not without controversy. Some might see the festival as taking "sides in the ongoing legal debate."

Summit Entertainment recently picked up North American rights to the film and plans to put it in U.S. theaters in the first half of 2010.

The Berlin Festival takes place February 11-21.

The Ghost Writer was released February 19th, 2010 and stars Ewan McGregor, Jon Bernthal, Kim Cattrall, Pierce Brosnan, Tim Preece, James Belushi, Olivia Williams, Timothy Hutton. The film is directed by Roman Polanski.
