Robert Patrick replaces Bryan Cranston in The Gangster Squad
We reported a month ago that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston joined the cast, although he has dropped out of the project since then. Robert Patrick is taking his place, portraying Max Kennard, an ambitious LAPD officer who originally hails from Texas.
Ruben Fleischer (30 Minutes or Less, Zombieland) is directing from a screenplay by Will Beall, which is based on a seven-part article series in The Los Angeles Times. The story centers on a high-profile unit of the LAPD in the 1940s, whose mission is to rid the streets of East Coast gangster elements.
It isn't known when production will begin on The Gangster Squad.
Gangster Squad was released January 11th, 2013 and stars Sean Penn, Holt McCallany, Wade Williams, James Hébert, Ambyr Childers, Josh Brolin, Mick Betancourt, Mac Brandt. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer.

This is a good recast. Patrick is an under rated actor but I loved him in The Unit.

I would have loved to have seen Cransten in this, but Robert Patrick is a great replacement. I've always felt he's been under appreciated as an actor.
It wouldn't suprise me if Cransten dropped out due to his schedule. If you look at his work load for the next year, he's got an extremely full plate. Would have rather seen him drop out of Total Recall than this project.
