This is the first movie based on the bestselling Philip Pullman novels. The "His Dark Materials" trilogy is comprised of The Golden Compass, "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". It revolves around a young girl who travels to the far north to save her best friend. Along the way she encounters shape-shifting creatures, witches, and a variety of otherworldly characters in parallel universes.
The Golden Compass opens December 7th, 2007.
The Golden Compass was released December 7th, 2007 and stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Ben Walker, Freddie Highmore, Ian McKellen, Eva Green, Jim Carter. The film is directed by Chris Weitz.

that does look intense...i saw the teaser trailer and wasnt too impressed, but this trailer looks nuts. Seems like the movie is on a real grand scale.
