The First Avenger: Captain America director Joe Johnston recently revealed that casting should start soon and now that seems to be the case. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that Johnston will begin testing candidates for the title role in the film and the front-runners are Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Michael Cassidy.

The site is also reporting that Garrett Hedlund is another name being considered for the role but, as of now, they haven't been able to reach a testing deal with the actor as of yet.

It was also said that whoever does sign on for the role will be required to sign options for nine other films, which could include sequels, The Avengers film and other future projects down the line.

Heat Vision Blog is also reporting on the casting news and it seems Patrick Fleuger is another name on the studio's list for the role. They also report that Hedlund is having scheduling conflicts as of now, but may be able to make the testing round. Jensen Ackles is another actor who was mentioned and is having conflicts with the testing schedule as well.

Joe Johnston will direct The First Avenger: Captain America from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film is currently set for a July 22, 2011 release date.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Well, it would be good for Hollywood to set new chickpeas out to sprang their wings and see what they can do in the movie bizz.

Listen up Hollywood bib wigs. Im a comic fan and Marvelite from South America. Guayaquil, Ecuador ( yes, where the Galapagos islands are). From this list Scott Porter is the one who most resembles Cap. The others look like they wanna do a highschool musical version out of the Avenger. Krasinski ?!? COME ON !!! Dont F it up, guys. It&#180s Captain America we&#180re talking here.

Why do they need to cast someone you've heard of? No one had heard of Sam Worthington before he was cast in Terminator, and now he's sh*tting gold bricks.

None of these actors I ever heard of! They need to get Sam Worthington since he's hot after doing Avatar, not some nobody!

Oh man! I just had the best idea. Ben Mackenzie from The OC and Southland would make a GREAT Captain America! He's 31, so the midway between 20 and 40 and thus could play Cap over the whole range of the story from the time he joins the army until he becomes frozen. He's blonde and attractive (typically compared to a younger-looking Russell Crowe), and he's a great actor (check him out in Southland if you haven't seen it; great show!). According to IMDB, he's half an inch taller than Robert Downey Jr., so he won't look too small standing next to Iron Man. What do you guys think?

Unless the Jack Ryan thing fell through. It's been a while since I've heard anything about it. It would be sort of funny, though, if Pine did get the role, because we would then have Captain Kirk and his father fighting side by side in The Avengers. I really hope they make Hemsworth grow a beard; clean-shaven Thor is decidedly un-badass.

Would have never thrown Krasinski's name in the ring, but I kind of like it the more I think about it. Obviously Krasinski's a bit doughy right now to play the part, but any actor worth his salt should be able to muscle up for a part like this. This would be a good chance for him to broaden his acting chops if he has them outside of comedy.

I also really like Chris Pine for the role, but as others have mentioned, he's got a number of other franchise roles on his agenda so timing may not be possible.

@ParkWilliams: Wardrobe is also a far superior book to Caspian. I thought they did a really good job making a film out of what is arguably Lewis' messiest and least interesting story in the series.

Krasinski out of the bunch. Who knows maybe itll be his break through role and people can take him seriously after this. Im sur he can bulk up, and with a hair cut, some scruff he could look it. Honestly its just his jaw that doesnt look right to me. Jim carrey use to only do comedies and eternal sunshine is (in my opinion) his best movie. I really want this movie to work so I have hope.

@Josh: Josh Duhamel is a great choice.

@The Fallen: Neither Narnia film was really badly written, but just like the books it's a love/ hate preference, some people love them, some people hate them. It has nothing to do with the movies, it's just what you do or don't get out of them. I think that TLtWatW was better than PC as well. It was better written and kept to the story and characters more than PC which focused more on cinematics and action.

I still think it's great. Captain America is the highest Marvel A-lister, and primary Leader of The Avengers, so he deserves this film.

I don't see anything wrong with the director, I mean Jurassic Park 3 was kind of rushed, but it seems like they are taking good care of Cap. So that's good.

@Fallen I thought Prince Caspian was better than LW&W and not by any means cheesier. I guess I just got something different out of it. Have you seen what they are doing for VotDT? It looks amazing...

  25. The Narrator: The Better Man

Awww sh*t. I just found a huge error I didn't bother to catch before. The screenplay is by the same two guys who did The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Prince Caspian. The former being an exceptional entertaining film, apart from its corniness, and the sequel being flawed and even cheesier. Both of which had terrible dialogue. God I am not liking this as much as I did two weeks ago.

realy this is all they got if any one of this actors is chosen then this movie will most likely suck...i mean i wont no for sure until a preview or somthing but for now i have no high hopes for this flim.

Hah. I love John Krasinski, but I cannot see him as Captain America. Chace Crawford, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel, and Garrett Hedlund all look the part, but I don't know if they can carry a whole film like this.

I think someone like Brad Pitt, Mark Valley, or Aaron Eckhart would be best at embodying what the character is about, but they're clearly going for a younger face because they're telling the origin story, so none of those actors would really fit.

Chris Pine is certainly a great choice, but he's already Kirk and (supposedly) Jack Ryan, so he probably doesn't have time for this.
Michael C. Hall (Dexter) or Josh Duhamel would be equally good choices, I think.

John Krasinski?!?!?!?! ok ok I love that guy...he is pretty cool nice guy, handsome, talented, funny and all...but as Cap...iiii doontt know...but then again....people were bitching and complaining like sh*t when Heath Ledger was chosen to play The Joker...but i mean things can literally go 50:50.

In the end they need 2 go with an unknown actor and they know this, hell even Fox got Hugh Jackman and WB had Christopher Reeves; so y not someone that can @ least look an act the part. F*cking Hollywood. Its all a joke.
