The Fighter 2 Is Happening Says Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg accepted the Guy Movie of the Year award for The Fighter at the Guys Choice Awards, which will air on Friday, June 10 at 9 PM ET on Spike. The network released footage of Mark Wahlberg accepting the award, where he also discussed The Fighter 2 sequel. Here's what he had to say below about the project, which will involve Micky Ward's three fights with Arturo Gatti.

"We left out the Arturo Gatti fights for a reason, because that's for The Fighter 2. We're not going to do The Fighter 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, but we're going to do The Fighter 2. We're going to do the Ward/Gatti trilogy."

The actor's statement mirrored what he said back in March, when he revealed they only wanted to do one sequel to The Fighter. It seems that one sequel will cover all three fights, which happened between May 2002 and June 2003. Unnecessary's right! Talk about being jaded in Hollywood. This one is exclusively for profit only. Jeers To Walhberg!

I really don't care how he spins it, telling me they won't do a crap load of sequels. I don't want to see any sequels. I wasn't intrigued by The Fighter because of the fights. I've seen that, it's called the Rocky series, Raging Bull, Cinderella Man, etc etc etc.... what made The Fighter great was the family drama behind the scenes. Namely anyone not named Mark Wahlberg. Anyways, this has all been said before, but apparently they're not listening to us, the people, so f*ck it.

this is an unnecessary sequel. i loved the first one but still, i dont think the world needs this and i feel it will inevitably tarnish the greatness of the first one. this sounds more to me like marky mark trying to get himself into another potentially oscar nominated movie. and a cash grab.
