While talking about his participation in the project, Chuck Norris dropped a bombshell, saying that he forced the filmmakers to cut out all the foul language. This is to insure that The Expendables 2 will get a PG-13 rating, and that the younger kids will be able to see it.
Here's what he had to say.
"In The Expendables 2, it had a lot of hard language in there, that would prevent a lot of young people from going to see it. I said, I don't do movies like that. I didn't do them in the past, I didn't do them on my TV series. I said, if you can't cut out all the language, hardcore language, I can't do it. So they did, and they made it a PG-13 film, so kids can go see it."
While we won't hear any naughty words, it seems we do get to see Chuck Norris saving the lives of this star-studded cast throughout The Expendables 2.
"I just finished The Expendables 2. That was a fun movie to do because I keep saving their lives throughout the whole movie, so I'm like the superhero against (Arnold) Schwarzenegger, (Sylvester) Stallone, and Bruce Willis."
The Expendables 2 was released August 17th, 2012 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film is directed by Simon West.

@ejk1 I don't remember more than one or two F-bombs where the R-rating came from all the deaths and blood in every scene.

@bawnian-dexeus Nope, great day. Just think some people on MW are a little pathetic. They don't have their precious cussing. How sad.

Whether there is foul language or not, one thing remains the same for me: I don't care. Wasn't interested in the first one, not interested in this one. But I have to say, I find this funny, especially the reactions below. "The Ultimate Man's Film?" Really? So the "Ultimate Man's Film" is something with no intelligence? As long as there's plenty of violence, right? Oh, and of course the foul language; that's a prerequisite (sarcasm galore in that sentence). And let's not forget this Chuck Norris aspect of the article. The man has been around for about forty years going about business the same way, and now because it interferes with what some want, he's reviled? Really? Because you don't get your f-bombs and other precious four letter words? Aww, poor babies. Damn Chuck Norris, damn him I say!!! (more sarcasm). His one demand has gotten in your way. Now you're all going to have to settle for your needless violence sans certain words. The horror! THE ABSOLUTE HORROR!!!!!!!
Unbelievable. Earlier today I read a news story of a woman who took drugs before killing her children and other family members before turning the gun on herself, and now I have read people complaining that a PG-13 rating is upsetting because there won't be enough blood. Just unbelievable.

I loved the first film. But it wasn't the swearing that made me love the film, it's how real they made the deaths. When you shoot someone, blood goes places. If you cut a lim off of a person, blood goes everywhere. So when a movie is rated R, there's pretty much no rules. But now that it's PG13, they have to take out the swearing (Which is ok with me, it upsets me. But I'll live), but more importantly the reality of death. It's like in X-Men, because they were PG13 they were not allowed to put blood on Wolverine's claws after he stabbed someone. If the movie was rated R, or even 14A then you know blood would be all over those things. So with the sequel to a very bloody movie, we're not going to see the blood. And that is what is extremely disappointing about this. Also, there probably won't be a directors cut because they obviously set these terms before filming.

This is terrible. This series of movies were made to be rated R as they are both original and a homage to the 80's action movies like Die Hard, Rambo and the Terminator. The director, producers and other stars should force Norris out of the film.

It surprises me that people do not care about this. In my eyes, what made the first film fun was Stallones "Grindhouse" style of filmmaking when it came to the action scenes. they were brutal and gory and watching people get blown to bits in a packed theatre was an awesome theatre experience. If the movie is PG-13 then the brutality of the action is going to be gone.

I appreciate and applaud Chuck's convictions, but I have to say... it's not a kids movie Chuck, not everything needs to be a kids movie. Personally, I don't need foul language to make me enjoy a movie, but on principle, I am getting tired of this politically correct crap getting into everything. Once in a while it is nice to sit back and watch a filth ridden movie.

the Narrator
If you look at the last Expendables film, it didn't benefit at all from having an R-rating. It was a crappy film, and no amount of violence or vulgarity could fix that. If anything, this (likely to be) crappy sequel will make them more money, and that's all the real difference we'll see, aside from toned down violence. Big whup!

I honestly don't have a problem with this. One they can get more people to see it with a PG-13 rating so more money. Two the only reason the first one was rated R was because of the language, so the action won't be toned down at all. There's nothing wrong with having a film be PG-13. Granted I know many will be upset because a film of this magnitude and with it's cast and action sequences they're expecting an R rating. Right now all I care about is if the film is going to be good or not. Rating shouldn't matter.

TheDude1 i know what you mean, but making something pg13, means no nudity, no cuss words and no blood/gore or very lil of it.Thats a bad sign for this kinda movie to get a step back rather than 4ward. I think the direction he wants to go is the mission imposable way. there r lots of action movies these days that r being done in pg13. or R but not all of em look good that way.
I think what triggered him was the fact that maybe he had a line that involved sum cussing or around him during a secne. and he wants no part of that. But why should his way, have to relect on the rest of the cast who r known for these steps? i mean why not have other members of the cast doing those lines, instead. so chuck can remain clean. but oh well. ig pg13 he wants then who cares, we'll still see it anyways but it wont beat part1.

If Jesus himself was in this film, I would still want it to be rated R. In no way should this amount of testosterone packed action stars be confined to a PG-13 rating!

@jasonkat Comparing to Friday the 13th part 2 being PG-13 is absurd. Those type of movies rely heavily on nudity and a lot of blood. Action movies don't have to.
And like I said before what is wrong with cutting out the cussing? All it really does it dummy down the language and nothing really more.

Lets hope that we get a director's-Stallone's-cutt on dvd/bluray, with all of the good stuff readded. I really dont think kids will be able to watch part1 after watching this1, this is like making a "friday the 13th, part2,..pg13" u know damn well kids wont b able to see how it all began with the remake. there4, keep doing wat ur doing and who cares about the kids, if kids wanna see it, their daddy will take them, trust me.

Does chuck think we still live in the 80s? People dont want to see a "clean-cutt" action movie and if any of u do. something is wrong with u.
This is a "mens" type of movie, not a chick-flick, not a drama, its not sex & the city, what the hell is van dam suposed to yell "oh my gosh that hurt, hit me again" lol. hope he gets killed off and never returns for part3. chuckjust lost my respect :(
