The Expendables 2 Gets Jean-Claude Van Damme If It Ditches Steven Seagal

Casting on Sylvester Stallone's sequel The Expendables 2 is starting to heat up as Sly prepares to shoot the sequel later this year. All of the original cast members, even Steve Austin, who died in the original, will be returning (we hear that Stone Cold may have an evil twin). But there has been much speculation, even on Stallone's part, about which new action luminaries he will be bringing in for this second helping. Sly's Tango & Cash better half, Kurt Russell, has been considered. Mike Tyson was toyed with and then dropped. Arnold Schwarzenegger may have a bigger role as his term as governor of California winds down. And Ryan Seacrest will participate in some capacity. But the two biggest names that action fans want to see return are Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal.

Director Sheldon Lettich, who is currently trying to launch a sequel to Double Impact (yes, the movie where Van Damme fights himself as twins), revealed that JCVD will be joining The Expendables 2. But there is one stipulation: He'll only do it if there is no Steven Seagal.

Apparently this won't be much of a problem, as The Expendables 2 producer Avi Lerner doesn't want Seagal anywhere near the set after a few bad experiences with him. Here is what Sheldon Lettich had to say:

"JC seems to be leaning towards appearing in the sequel, as far as I know...If Steven Seagal is not in the sequel. From what I've heard it, [Steven Seagal won't be, not because of Sly, but because of producer Avi Lerner, who had a few bad experiences with Steven."


Lettich then chimed in about his own proposed sequel for Double Impact, saying:

"We're getting closer to resolving the rights issue, but it's not something I can talk about yet, nor is it a sure thing. Stay tuned."


Casting confirmations for The Expendables 2 should come at any moment. Stay tuned.

The Expendables 2 comes to theaters August 17th, 2012 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Jet Li. The film is directed by Simon West.

    Dark films are cool. Need a new TV if it can't handle it, no problems on any of mine. A few good moments in 2D upscale too. So glad segal was flumped he sucks. Anyway, seen his cop show? Who wants old fat dude trying a karate round house? This isn't a wayan brothers comedy! Segal should stick to what he does best, staying hidden, then jumping out 10 years later saying... "Donut"

    It would be cool if Expendables 2 started out with jean claude van druggie for 1/4 or 1/2, or even just a few seconds of the movie, for example: JCVD playing an exkiller/druggie-f*ck up with a scene of him running with a gun trips and blows his own brains out, dies or gets killed and Steven Seagal appears in the rest of the movie! Now that would be a box office smash!

    Arnold should have plenty of time to get in shape now that he is no longer governator - and now back to sperminator like in the 70's! I would love to see him in shape again and play the villain or maybe he could just play himself - disgraced cheating governor falls into depression, only to join the team to find new purpose?     Oh and other thing........rumour has it that JCVD and Seagal were at Sly's party back in the day, they fell out coz they were bickering about who could kick the crap outta who and when JCVD squared up to Seagal he done a runner lol. I wouldnt want a wimp like that in any film of mine lol. x

    Hey how about jackie chan? (as a bad guy) he seems like a good ninja guy who can have a good feud with Jet Li. i bet that would b kool. I mean thats kinda what Seagal, and jcv would b used for anyways, as fighting guys. And since Jet Li played a good role as that small guy who always gets the bigger or better than he is thing, so why not match him up w sumthing alil more him.. none other than jackie chan.

    Yeah, apparently Seagal, despite his self-appointed "Zen-Master" title, is a huge *sshole and really hard to work with. Shoot, there was even a comment by Lorn Michaels years ago after Seagal hosted SNL that he was' "the biggest jerk to ever host the show." While I would love to see bothe he and JCVD, I would rather see JC if I had to pick one.
