The Evil Dead Remake Will Not Feature Ash Says Bruce Campbell

Actor Bruce Campbell took to his Twitter account today to answer some of his fans' questions about The Evil Dead remake he is producing with Sam Raimi, Robert G. Tapert, and new director Federico Alvarez. Much to the chagrin of many fans, though, Bruce Campbell revealed that his iconic character Ash will not be present in the remake. Here are two of his tweets below from this afternoon.

The Evil Dead Bruce Campbell Tweet #1

"'@Shipwreck2k: That's the first i've heard of the remake.. Who are they casting for ash?' No Ash character currently."

The Evil Dead Bruce Campbell Tweet #2

"Twitter fails when info gets fragmented. Last statement: ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."

When we spoke with Bruce Campbell at Comic-Con 2011, the actor indicated there may be a possibility he could make a cameo appearance in The Evil Dead, although he would not divulge any specifics. It is possible that he could be featured as a different character besides Ash, but it seems we won't positively know for quite some time. Bruce Campbell also said that the remake will begin production in early 2012.

The Evil Dead comes to theaters April 12th, 2013 and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore. The film is directed by Federico Alvarez.

@2movieguys how is he a f*cking sell out? he has his very own show. there's nothing wrong with doing a cameo for a movie that made him popular

I love the originals. The Evil Dead 4 that I always wanted will never happen and I made my peace about that. Even if it did I would be afraid that Raimi would go the cgi route, and it just wouldn't be the same as the originals that I have grown to love.

Now as for the remake. I was so upset to hear about a remake cause my first thought was someone else playing Ash. Bruce is Ash, period. No one can fill those shoes I will not even watch it if they do replace him. So for them to remake the Evil Dead without someone new playing Ash, makes me happy.

I always thought Nicholas Brendan from Buffy had a great Campbell-esque vibe, if they were ever going to remake Evil Dead, but I'm interested to see where this goes without the Ash character.

@2movieguys Sellout? Settle down! Bruce is on Burn Notice and is spectacular doing nothing but appearing on a basic spy show! Bruce isn't a sellout, but a great actor proud to work whatever project to the best of his capacities. So, chill, dude!

@dan1 the scene where ash's evil hand is cracking dishes over his head is awesome. The look in his eyes and on his face truly convinced me that he had knocked himself silly.

    Such an Underated actor.

@shuabert I agree but his Drag Me To Hell movie had a very similar feel to the Evil Dead movies but he went waaaay overboard on the computer animated gore. I have always felt that animated gore makes it less visceral.

I trust because of the fact that Sam Raimi is involved, that this will be something fun. After all, Evil Dead 2 was pretty much a remake of Evil Dead, so what's the point of doing another if they're not putting a pretty severe spin on it?

Huge fail. Bruce Campbell made the Evil Dead movies what they were. His manic faces and perfectly timed humor is why I got into them.
