Fox Searchlight Pictures has debuted the first trailer for the new dramatic comedy The Descendants, which will hit theaters across the country on December 16. Click on the video player below for a glimpse at this indie tale, which stars George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, and Matthew Lillard. From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning Sideways, set in Hawaii, The Descendants is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family's land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.

The Descendants was released December 16th, 2011 and stars George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller, Nick Krause, Patti Hastie, Grace A. Cruz, Kim Gennaula, Karen Kuioka Hironaga. The film is directed by Alexander Payne.

    Maybe Clooney will get a nod for this, but it's way to early to tell. I always get annoyed when there is a daughter or son in a movie that doesn't give some respect to a father or mother, like it was shown in this trailer.

    you know i always feel privileged when Clooney makes a new flick. and this does look like it would be good. but i really just want to see George shoot some f*cker in the face with a gun again, you know? you got your Oscar, you have an amazing resume of films. i dont count the American for a face shooter.... cause it sucked. mostly..... mostly
