The Dark Knight Thursday Shows Already Selling Out

With more than a week to go before the highly-anticipated release of The Dark Knight, Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, reports that many of its pre-opening Thursday midnight shows on July 17 are already sold out in cities across the country, from New York to Boise, Idaho. Theaters continue to add 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. showtimes to meet the ticketing demand.

"The Dark Knight may be responsible for a lot of bleary eyes at work next Friday morning," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer for Fandango. "We're seeing a record number of late-night showtimes selling out in advance, while theaters are adding new performances every day."

More than 1,500 late-night showtimes of the movie have been scheduled for the film's pre-opening on Thursday night (Friday morning), July 17-18, at Fandango.com/TheDarkKnight. An online survey of more than 3,000 The Dark Knight fans on Fandango.com last week resulted in the following information on the late-night surge:

- 37% of respondents plan to see the film at least once during one of the late night performances on Thursday night.
- 38% say that they intend to take off a few hours or the entire day
from work on Friday as a result of seeing the movie the night before.
- 60% of these moviegoers are male.
- 71% are under the age of 35.
- 39% plan to see the film in IMAX(R).
- 92% expect that the Academy will recognize Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker with a posthumous Oscar(R) nomination next year.

For Fandango, The Dark Knight is poised to be the year's top advance ticket-seller in wide release, outpacing Iron Man, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Sex and the City: The Movie at the same point in those films' sales cycles.

The Dark Knight was released July 18th, 2008 and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Monique Gabriela Curnen. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

lol most people should know that was from South Park, I think he was just being a smartass because it kinda didn't make sense regardless. Unless you were at a friends house typing that, then that joke might apply lol.

Most people's opinions I do not respect because of how personal people get. What is this topic about? The Dark Knight. Not sexual preferences, not about global warming, not about politics. But somehow, SOMEHOW people always manage to squeeze that bullsh*t in here. It's f*cking annoying. I think movieweb should actually delete (unrelated) off-topic posts.

Warner Bros. is estimating 90 million due to increased competition in July over May. "Insiders" are estimating in the 160 range. And I totally forgot where I just read that.

I don't have a problem disagreeing with anyone, at any time. But unless what they say is something VERY STUPID, I will ALWAYS respect someone's opinion... whether they're right or wrong. When I tell someone I respect their opinion, its because I read their comment and they actually said something that makes some sense and not something stupid.... like making 200 million over one weekend. Unless Dark Knight is opening in 6000 theaters, its not gonna make that much money.

And you're right Roam... anything we say here is up for scrutinization... (opinions are always open to that) but I just don't think a person's age, sex, or in Maniack's case sexual preference, should be an issue when it comes to opinions. If you love movies and have opinions about them, it shouldn't matter if your 15 or 60 yrs old, male or female, or homosexual or heterosexual.

And Visionary... I respect your opinion about NOT respecting our opinions HAHAHAHAHAHA... and what do you mean "SCREW U GUYS, I'M GOIN HOME!!"? Weren't you on your computer when you typed that?

You guys are all crazy, I'm a huge batman fan, and I'm waiting till Sunday to watch it, for one, I have to work that night, which sux.

As far as this being one of the best films, I will never say one way or another till I watch it.

Who cares how much this film will make, it's not going to do jack crap for me to see this film make the most ever or not.

and last, whenever you write something on the internet it is open for scrutinization, and being ripped apart because of your opinion. Don't ever write things expecting everyone to agree or even show any respect at all, it's an endless battle that no one will win.

Chad... I agree with you about the close minded people in this forum. Wish some would grow up and respect others opinions. Now..

I respect your opinion, but i'll have to disagree with you on the Indy 4 vs Iron Man thing and will have to side with Maniack. See as of July 9, Iron Man has made 312 million and Indy 4 has made 307 million. Iron Man was release THREE weeks before Indy 4 so Iron Man has already run its course while Indy 4 still has a couple of weeks left. Final tally prediction:

    Indy 4 - 321 million
    Iron Man - 315 million

Sorry they are making fun of your sexual peference Maniac, I really am. Close minded people will always say stupid things, can't do much about it. So much for free-will right? lol. Anyway, I disagree with you about Indy, Iron Man was a monster hit, by the end of the year it will earn more gross than Indy. No one disliked Iron Man, unlike Indy 4, which got not so good comments about. And I saw both, and personally I will say Iron Man was very good. I had high hopes for Indy cause I love Indy movies but the 4th was boring. Had no momentum. There was nothing "new" or clever about it. Even his puzzle/riddle solving was too easy. Dialogue was horrible. I begged my friend to come see it with me and I felt like crap afterwards cause he didn't really want to see it, and it wasn't even that good. It wasn't trash, but it wasn't really good either. There was no point of making this film lol.

And with all that said, The Dark Knight will destroy both Iron Man and Indy 4. Hands down. I wish I were kidding. You can just tell. It has so much hype it will do very well.

First of all, Indy 4 is going to surpass Iron Man, I never said it had already. And secondly, as I have told ALL of my closest friends and others on boards just like this, I really truly hope Dark Knight smashes Spider-Man 3 out of the highest weekend gross of all time. And I really hope it is the highest grossing film of the year as well. It definitely deserves it already. Just because I am commenting that I will also be seeing Mamma Mia! is no reason for you guys to attack me and says some of the things you are saying. Just re-read what you guys wrote for God's sake! Is it so hard to comprehend that The Dark Knight has A LOT to overcome in order to achieve what WE ALL WANT it to achieve? I really hope it can do it because I want industry analysts to be proven wrong here. I'm lining up at midnight just like you guys and again on Friday night as well. That is two showings in less than 24 hours. And I will be at the store the first day it is released on Blu-ray to own it as well. So don't bash me for putting my opinion out there for everyone to read just because it may differ from the vast majority. Oh, and as for all the gay comments. You guys need to lighten up. Just because I am gay does not mean I am one of those stereotypes who parade around flaunt it. Most people wouldn't even guess I am.

I will be pissed off if the cinemas in Aus. underestimate the crowds that will be flocking to see this film. There will be hopefully 10 or 12 screenings a day (including Gold Class!)

I had to buy 3 advance tickets to the midnight showing here for $10 a piece 17hrs 40mins ago. My 2 friends will be paying me back the cash since there was more than one 12:01AM showing, and we wanted all our tickets at once so we wouldn't get tickets for separate screens, so it was decided that I buy them. (of course, it's always me). Doesn't matter though! Auburn doesn't have many midnight moviegoers. At least not since "Revenge Of The Sith." (May 19th 2005.) Which is far enough back that there have been more than a few midnight flicks that garnered wide attraction since then that "Auburnites" skipped out on.

Go suck on a c*ck, moviemaniack. I say that w/ straight people, but w/ u i mean it. It may or may not surpass spider-man 3, but we can dream. Besides, "the darker themes of the dark knight" won't weigh it down. Parents today will let thier kid see an r-rated movie, im sure they'll let them see f*cking batman. Spider-man 3 sucked, tdk will be a masterpiece, no doubt bout it, so even if it doesn't surpass spidey 3 box office wise(which i think it will), then at least we can have the comfort that it beat the sh*t out of it movie wise.

Maniac, Iron Man has the top spot of the year, not the f*ck up of a film Indy. So myabe you should do your research f*ggot
That and Titanic may have made the most money, but that doesn't mean it is a great film, look at Indy! Everyone hated it, the first three were amazing and they f*cked it all up by making another one...with aliens...really f*cking aliends in Indy!? WTF!
