The Dark Knight Rises Takes in $28 Million at Midnight Screenings

The Dark Knight Rises rang up a record-breaking $28 million from midnight screenings. The mark shatters the superhero midnight record of $18.7 million, set just a few months back by Marvel's The Avengers.

Another report indicates that director Christopher Nolan's Batman finale earned as much as $30 million last night, just shy of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1's overall midnight record of $30.2 million. It would be sufficiently more impressive if The Dark Knight Rises manages to best those sparkly vampires, since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 had the advantage of being released in 3D, with higher ticket prices.

Warner Bros. released this final Batman adventure in over 3,700 theaters last night, before opening today in 4,404 theaters. That theater count is the second highest in history, just behind The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's 4,468 theaters.

The Dark Knight Rises certainly seems poised to break the all-time three-day box office record of $207.4 million, set by Marvel's The Avengers. Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how this Bat-finale fares in theaters.

The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

@mcleve02 I have no doubt that the Dark Knight Rises will destory the Twilight movies. In fact, haven't all three of the Nolan movies made more money in the box office then any of the Twilight movies released so far?

@incmob Well we can only hope that it gets fixed ad tweaked for the blueray release! It does give them a chance to fix some bugs!

@mcleve02 i am not so sure of that, but you could be right who knows but it just lessened the experience everytime bane was in the picture. even the group i was with had a hard time understanding him. I am just saying that even had they loosened the bane vocal effect it would not have made him less intimidating, and perhaps when nolan viewed it, he was surrounded by the best sound system.

@bawnian-dexeus@incmob@superman81 I seriously think it may have been your theaters... sad part is speakers give out, especially when they get played as loudly as those at the theaters... and nobody seems to maintain anything unless they have to, so that they can save money..
