Backstage has updated its Los Angeles production listings, and they have included news on some highly anticipated upcoming superhero movies. The biggest piece of info reports that The Dark Knight Rises is officially set to begin principle photography this April in New Orleans. It was reported in August that Warner Bros. wanted to shoot the sequel in Louisiana to take advantage of the monumental tax incentives the state was offering director Christopher Nolan.

Joss Whedon's massive Marvel ensemble The Avengers will officially begin shooting in February, presumable in the Los Angeles area. Marvel Studios other big franchise Spider-Man will go before cameras this December. The title attached to the movie is currently Spider-Man 2.0, but that has in no way been verified as an official title for the reboot.

It was reported back in early October that production on Mad Max: Fury Road had been delayed until February of 2012. Backstage now lists that the George Miller directed action sequel/reboot will actually begin shooting this coming summer of 2011.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Mad Max: Fury Road is in development and stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Tom Hardy, Teresa Palmer, Charlize Theron, Adelaide Clemens, Riley Keough. The film is directed by George Miller.

Its not about the location...its about the principle photography and the cinematography, which will be supervised by Nolan and don't forget Wally Pfister, who, believe it or not is the one mostly responsible for the epic vision of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Insomnia, Memento, The Presitge, and even Inception. Nolan formulates a vision, Pfister makes it, and there is more to Nolan's transition to New Orleans besides tax incentives, but we will just have to wait and see. Ultimately the change in location will not alter the experience of the film, the story, or Gotham City itself.

I wonder how much of the New Orleans scenery will be used for The Dark Knight Rises. The New Orleans footage will probably be for Gotham City, but if it's part of the story for Batman to travel to New Orleans then I have to say that Batman would look pretty cool up against alot of the scenery over there.

I only live about 40 minutes away from New Orleans myself, it'll be cool to know that part of a Batman film will be filmed there.

aww, why the move to New Orleans? i took it as a bit of territorial pride that these movies were made in my home town. Oh well, it'll be awesome just the same.

Neato. I'm glad they aren't delaying this. Seems weird that Spider-Man is shooting four months before even though it comes out a couple weeks ahead of Dark Knight. Scheduling I suppose.

@Bawn, you are correct. Many times the news and others still use the term Gotham in referring to NYC.

As for this story, I don't care. The only news I want to read about is on villains and plots.

  21. The Narrator: The Better Man

I agree with @bane. Nolan is partially from Chicago, and he says that it IS Gotham. So I think that the N.O. shoots will be worked into the story somehow, but I doubt it'll take the place of Chicago/Gotham.

I'm excited for every movie on that list.

heres the quote from comicbookmovies.com bout filming both in Chicago and New Orleans...

" Location scouting for the untitled Batman project has already begun in Chicago, Illinois, where the two previous films were headquartered. If this new deal finalizes, almost half of principal photography will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana. This deal would be a big help to the studio financially, since it would allow better use of the projected $200 million budget for the film. "

Dont worry my friends, im sure well be seeing Chicago " Gotham City " in all its glory again, and maybe using the shots in N.O as locations within Gotham or maybe the outskirts of the city, kind of like how The Narrows played out in Begins
