Production recently began on Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated superhero saga The Dark Knight Rises, and even though we're more than a year away from the July 20, 2012 release date, the viral campaign has already kicked in. Warner Bros. has launched an official website for The Dark Knight Rises, although it only contains a cryptic audio file. When deciphered, the voice is chanting "The fire rises," which leads to a Twitter account named @TheFireRises. That site links to another Warner Bros. site, which features an encrypted photo prompting users to tweet the hashtag #TheFireRises, which had to be done in order for this full shot to be revealed. The encryption has been decrypted and now we have the first photo of Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
With over a year to go before The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters, it seems there will be many more viral goodies in store for the fans. Stay tuned!
The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

@newtron: Are you sure about that? The Lazarus Pits afterall are in no way realistic. And they tie in more directly with the League of Shadows, as does Bane. So this alleged great third act which Nolan wasn't even gonna tackle on the basis of third outings usually sucking majorly is sounding more like a poor rehash of the first film that's relying on riding TDK's box office coattails. For the two films were very different in tone and style. So a "We're back to finish the job" storyline without Henri Ducard--whom was half the draw the League had in "Begins"--does indeed sound like a pathetic attempt at making more money. I really hope that's not the case. But thus far, that's what all the casting, images, and news articles are implying it to be.

@movie-nut First trailer for Dark Knight was shown with "The Simpsons" a full year before release, remember the one with the insignia, fire and Alfred and Bruce talking. So its not unreasonable to see a teaser with Potter although much like that one it wont show anything.

This is going to be so cool! @newtron Totally agree with you. Realism is the best Nolan offers, and makes for a much better film. (also his epic scope going with imax and skipping 3d) It just sucks you right into the action. Giving base to the fantastic world of The BATMAN!

@slysnide I was thinking the same thing, but Iike gothamknight, I'm considering the fact that it's Chris Nolan, rather than Brett Ratner (thank God), who relies on realism, not comedy, to engage the audience and enhance the story. I can't say what Nolan will do with this character, but my hope is that he won't produce another disaster that was Juggernaut and Venom.

The main problem i have is the guy who was cast for bane is about 5'9-5'10, and christian bale is about 6'1-6'2. so you are telling me that they are going have batman be taller than bane WOW... with the costume, where are the venom tubes and that cant be the biggest the have him get. just hope they dont mess it up like they did with batman & robin movie.

I don't know if it's the lighting or what, but Bane looks really pale, almost like he's dead. And that mask definitely helps with the intimidation factor.

I agree that this movie will rock but it being the best movie of 2012, I would have to disagree. Cause u see the grand daddy of all superheroes, Superman, comes out the same year. And ur going to have all the Avengers lovers saying its going to be the top movie. I laugh at that assumption.
