The Riddle is not the villain in The Dark Knight Rises
The director then went onto tell The Los Angeles Times that long-rumored villain The Riddler will not be the main antagonist in this third installment of his hugely successful Batman saga.
About who would be appearing in the latest chapter of this DC Comics adaptation, Nolan stated:
"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones."
Christopher Nolan wouldn't further extrapolate on that point though, only assuring fans that Edward Nigma, aka The Riddler, would not be making an appearance. The elusive director did confirm that the sequel would not be shot in 3D. Instead, he plans to use high-definition and IMAX cameras to "strike out on a different cinematic path." The Dark Knight also used IMAX cameras to film various different scenes for its original theatrical release.
The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Christian Bale says this may not be true as the title of Batman 3. Nolan has not announced it.

@ejk1 yeah i get what your saying however this is gonna be Nolan's last one for a while. And i say a while cause no director out their would be dumb enough to try this series after Nolan revolutionized it. I think the the Harley Quine storyline will give him something to come back to and reintroduce the joke. Now its no secret i believe that role belongs to Heath god rest his soul and he did a amazing job but i have to be realistic and realize that someday a new actor has got to take on that role I have no doubt Nolan is gonna be the one to pull it off and keep the fans happy. So i say why not, not a major role obviously but a couple scenes here and their just to keep people on the edge of their seats something Nolan is very talented at doing. Personally i wouldn't want cat women in the series i would much rather see Talia Al Ghul i think that storyline would have endless possibilities like many others

He also needs to stay away from one-dimensional villains like Deadshot.

does batman have a fancy toy in his belt or is he just happy to see catwoman. Batman rises...it just sounds so dirty to me.

I say Mad Hatter and Deadshot. However this is all hopeful wishing, but I felt like joining in on the fun. :-)

I don't think Harley Quinn is the way to go here. This is the last film in the trilogy, and since Nolan has said no to the use of Joker, Harley loses a lot of luster. There's simply no point bringing her in if Mr. J is not on-screen. I have the same problem with Hugo Strange that I do with Bullock--a demented psychologist has already been seen. Nolan needs to stay away from repetitiveness, and keep the story fresh.

i say bring in Harley Quinn for f*ck sakes i know im not the only one waiting for this character, do the exact story she is The Joker's shrink and she turns

Or, replace Catwoman with Talia Al Ghul and it makes even more sense because there is the history given the first film.

I think Hugo Strange and Catwoman are the right way to go here. If they use Strange they can bring back Jonathan Crane as a sort of henchman, since that's basically what he was reduced to in the second film.

The only problem I have with Bullock as a "dirty" cop is that would be a retread move for Nolan. We've already seen that aspect in BB, with Gordon's partner Det. Flass. I don't want Nolan to start using the same type of characters, as it would hurt the movie.

@Slysnide because he's just a dirty cop and a not a supervillain. he's not like the joker or scarecrow. now maybe a side villain like eric roberts was as falconi in the dark knight but he shouldnt be the main focus

@Pjwolsker: what's wrong with Detective Harvey Bullock? He sounds realistic enough. (seriously, I know nothing about him, but the description doesn't seem unreal)

@ejk: I don't disagree that Catwoman needs to bring a strong sex appeal to the table, but you're thinking too conventionally. Catwoman aesthetically is a bit Victorian Gothic, dare I say (Google victorian gothic and catwoman for comparison). I don't mean to sound too reminiscent of Batman Returns, but Catwoman, like you even mentioned, is modeled after an original comic book character. She needs to be convincing both in appeal and darkness, and an archetype beauty like Wilde on paper just doesn't foot the bill. Oh and to whoever suggested Kate Beckinsale, nice pick. More likely than Rapace as well.

Under the Red Hood is about the only animated/live action movie of the Jason Robin I've actually enjoyed. Normally I hate that character. Nightwing on the other hand, he's awesome.

No Bane, simply because of the horrible connection to Batman & Robin.
No Killer Croc, because I don't like him.
Anyone else I'm game for, but like Narrator, I've been rooting for Hush for a long time, and until Nolan says otherwise, I see no reason to stop.

Phil, it's a bad argument because you can't compare Rachel to Selina. It's not fair. They are apples and oranges. Rachel is a Nolan creation. Selina has about 70 years of history. Nolan can do many things with Rachel, because there was nothing to base her off. Selina, like Joker, has to follow a certain model, which includes being a bombshell. You may not like that, but take a look at the comics. Go as far back as you can, and place the pictures in the context of the time. You will see a highly sexualized character for each time period. That is Beckinsale, that is Wilde, but that is not Rapace. I know I sound harsh, but it's true. Rapace is a great actress, and could fit as another character, just not Selina, or Talia, for the matter.

@Bawnianxyz I've stopped listening to all the unrealistic suggestions. I'm sure whoever Nolan goes with will be memorable and a great fit.
