The Dark Knight Rises May Have a Sidekick Hints Michael Caine!

Michael Caine hints that Batman may have a sidekick
As we well know at this point, The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most guarded sets in history, and all involved with the production have remained tightlipped in regards to the characters and storyline. It has been rumored for a while that Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) might be getting a sidekick this time out, with much speculation pointing towards a female version of Robin.

Michael Caine, who was attending the Cars 2 junket this morning, has added more fuel to the fire. When asked about the progress of shooting The Dark Knight Rises for director Christopher Nolan, the man playing Alfred made a subtle hint that Batman will go away on his adventures with one or more sidekicks, who are all under the care of this iconic butler. Is he referring to Robin? Is he refereeing to Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman; Anne Hathaway)?

That is unknown at this point, but it does sound like Bruce Wayne will have some help in his crime fighting endevors this time out. Here is what Michael Caine told our friends at Collider, with emphasis on 'them' and 'they'.

"I started filming last week and I film next week. As the butler, I do a load of filming at the beginning, and everybody goes off and does all the adventures and they all come home shot to pieces and I patch them together when they all get back. Christopher Nolan, I think, is one of the greatest directors in the world and I've been lucky enough...this is my fifth movie with him. It's such a pleasure to work with him and he's so clever. We've all signed the Official Secrets Act. I'm lucky to be able to tell you the title of the movie. I remember I did an interview and someone said to me, "What are you doing next?" I said, "I'm doing Batman." I saw Chris and he said, "Why did you tell them you were doing Batman?" I said, "Because I am." He said, "You're supposed to keep it secret." I said, "I couldn't keep that a secret." Let me tell you...the plot is extraordinary...really extraordinary. I know why he wants to keep it a secret. You really need not to know till you see the movie."

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

This is Christopher Nolan we are talking about -- If he chooses to add a sidekick, let him add a sidekick. He can't get this wrong ! I didn't like the news at first, but it is Christopher Nolan that is in charge here.

I'm sure it will add more mind-blowing action scenes in the mix. Can't freakin' wait for this !

A female Robin? No thanks. Batgirl before Robin? I rather the other way around. It's probably Catwoman. The thing that throws me off is "THEY all come back shot to pieces..." (hinting that Batman is getting help this time around)

I didn't get anything out of that. People will try to find "clues" in anything for this movie. I realize it's fun, but wait for confirmation, or at least something a little more substantial, before you get too excited.

i agree with what he said about us needing NOT to know until you see the movie. they always give too much away before the movies release and it ruins it a bit. just like when you see a trailer for a movie over and over again and you have it memorized. it doesnt leave any surprise for when you ACTUALLY see the movie. too much news, too many "leaks", too many people worried about the plot or the characters and yadda yadda. know what, i have a simple formula for you all.....DID YOU LIKE NOLANS FIRST 2 BATMAN MOVIES? YES? THEN YOU'LL LIKE THIS ONE AND THATS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW UNTIL OPENING DAY. i really miss the daye when you didnt know every single little detail of a movie before you saw it.

@pjwolsker They wouldn't have to call her Robin for it to be virtually the same character. But anyway, I'm not saying it is either. It's too early and this is all just wild speculation. I was just suggesting Temple may have a bigger role than they've let on.

@shuabert dude im pretty sure it wont be a female robin either. when Nolan and Bale say no robin, im pretty sure theyre talking about both sexes. it has to be catwoman or just another rumor trying to throw us off

Considering the only character description they've given to #JunoTemple's character is "street smart Gotham girl", I'm guessing it is going to be a female Robin, a la Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns, which kind of fits in with the whole angle of Batman being a fugitive and having to operate sort of behind the scenes.

Either that, or it's just Selena Kyle.

This story is pure sh*t. Talk about pulling something from absolutely nothing. This is about as substantive as the Spielberg Directing Transformers 4 story from a few days ago. I am embarrassed to have read this and sad for this writer. Thumbs down.

maybe the "they" he his referring to is Bale, Nolan and the film crew responsible for the action scenes. if there is anyone allied with Batman, it would be Catwoman, Nolan has already promised to never have Robin in his trilogy. Although, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt's involvement is kinda fishy, he'll have a big role... and there is the little girl cast as Gordon's daughter...my money is still on my original theory.
