The Dark Knight Rises Has Tom Hardy as Hugo Strange?

Tom Hardy is Hugo Strange?
Tom Hardy is Hugo Strange?
Batman News is reporting an intriguing rumor that The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy will play the main villain in the sequel, Dr. Hugo Strange.

We first reported on Tom Hardy's involvement in the project just over a month ago, although it wasn't said what character he would be playing. We also reported a few weeks ago that Tom Hardy could play Detective Harvey Bullock in The Dark Knight Rises, although this new story would confirm earlier speculation that the actor is instead playing the villain.

Hugo Strange first appeared in a February 1940 issue of Detective Comics and was among the first villains that Batman ever squared off against, having appeared long before iconic villains The Joker and Catwoman came around. Strange is a scientist who possesses a genius IQ level, and he is one of the few who knows of Bruce Wayne's secret identity, which ultimately leads to his obsession with Batman.

This news hasn't been confirmed as of yet. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further developments regarding The Dark Knight Rises as soon as we have that information.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Nolan could put a realistic spin on many of the "fantasy" villain's. I just hope he would put us all out of are misery. He's bringing it full circle, got to be someone who will take him all the way & put gotham in the most danger....

Thalia is a way more logical choice than Catwoman, because the context is already there. They could even get Neeson back, and show flashbacks of things we didn't see that took place between them before Bruce met Ras.

    @FilmNerd
But Nolan is making them realistic, rather than setting them in the fantasy world, and Catwoman and Thalia can be done realistically.

Also last not to forget, they both have ways to be introduced, Thalia could be out for revenge on Batman since he did apparently kill her father, Ra in Batman Begins
    &
Catwoman can be a female cat burgular.

Ra, Scarecrow & Joker are slightly fantasy realmed but Nolan pulled them off realistically but erasing some elements

Never will Nolan have archtypal characters or fantasy realmed ones as mr freeze robin catwomen or even Thalia and good on him, hopefully BATMAN wont be tied in anymore with the justice league as nolan has made it its own if not this trilogy is a stand alone, tooo good to be wasted like that

Hmmmmm interesting I can definately see Hardy as Strange, it makes more sense than the other rumour about him being Harvey Bullock...

Safe to say the lead runner for the antagonists in TDKR are
for the guys - Hush & Hugo Strange
    &
For the girls - Catwoman or Thalia

I reckon Catwoman will get ruled out though quite soon, as Nolan stated he wants to do villains that haven't graced the big-screen yet.
Also Thalia closes the story arc for Ra, sweetly

They should include another Hero in this movie as well.
Not necessarily Superman or Green Lantern,
Nor do I mean Robin. but i mean another DC hero, who's a human with no powers, just making an appearance, maybe a hero inspired by Batman?
    Azrael perhaps? Hmmmm,

On a side note. Aren't TDKR and Spider-man coming out at the same time???
Don't you love how SLOW TDKR is taking things, while Spider-man is like:
BANG, BANG, BANG, Okay let's get to filming!!!

Then again, this is most likely a ploy,
I bet you TDKR is almost done filming, with all this information being kept tightly under wraps so that fans can speculate and get their hopes up, until they release a trailer.

That's why I'm for them adding in a Genius villain,
as well as a Female villain that'll give him a run for his money.
    It's new for Nolan's series.

With Riddler, I continuously picture them Re-hashing the joker, which is why I never wanted him used.
And with Hush, I see it mimicking "Begins", with Ras Al Ghul, since he was Batman's equal, being his master.

I can see Hugo Strange working with this. It'll give the movie a different feel from TDK so it's not a copy, like they would have with the Riddler. And throwing in a psychopathic genius doctor, would give the movie that "Master Villain Plan" i'd love to see Nolan's batman movies end on. With some big fantastic plot that'll put Gotham City in danger.

It all fits well if they make a riddler cameo and all that sh*t.. Riddler is a smart, Strange is smart.....aa....aaa.....old friends!....thought it comes to a conflict in their original stories but hey, what about it. what about it?

  18. TiJuRod

Hopefully its just a wrong rumor cause he'd look cool as HUSH or Deadshot even though that probably wont happen either but whatever Nolan is sick at what he does so whoever Tom Hardy plays is fine with me as long as is not Hugo.. Hugo's looks to old... Plus i want a costumed villian I dont think Hugo wears a costume except for a Batman costume.. I think im not that familiar with the character

  19. The Narrator: The Better Man

If Hugo is in the film, I agree with @IUH, we need someone who can match Bruce physically, like Deadshot. Now if Hush was in the film, he could match Bat's both mentally and physically, while bringing a personal vendetta into the film, only adding layers to the story. Again, I want Nolan to tell us what's up before I think much further.

and here i thought batman would be squaring off against jar jar binks... umm, sorry wrong saga, but personally love the choice, the dynamics that will be presented will be a great story arc, for a very set stage due to the ending of the dark knight. as far as killer croc, bane, and clayface... i know how those are loved villians, but honestly, how could those possibly be put to screen in a believable way... croc i could see to some degree, but i trust nolan, and feel that he is doing exactly how he has with the franchise in making this as believable in cinema as it could be in real life. i am on board, and it continues to intrigue me with any new details on this movie... although i am still warming up to the dark knight rises title.

@IUH: I know Batman premiered in '39, but since Hugo predates Batman #1 as you mentioned, then was Batman in DC#36 when Hugo debuted? Or was he--like Batman--a character that DC figured could fly in his own universe, and was then made a villain for the Batman line?

Well we already know he has a Perfect Shaved head from watching "Bronson". I'd be happy with this, assuming it's true. Oh, and Hugo Strange first showed up February, 1940. Joker appeared "Spring", 1940.

I'm happy that there going this way with the villan.. the film was becoming about the villan i think it is good to see a possible shift to be batman driven like the title suggests.. i know the villan is a huge part obviously and this type of villan is what the film needs, the obsession angle would be wicked to see nolan do.. like we all said all rumours!!!!!!
