The Dark Knight Rises Gets Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Holiday Killer?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is The Holiday Killer
The plan was to keep Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in director Christopher Nolan's upcoming sequel The Dark Knight Rises a secret. The actor was confirmed to be involved with the project on Friday. Now, an insider from Christopher Nolan's camp has stepped forward to reveal more information about this trilogy ending sequel.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, aka The Holiday Killer. The character figured heavily in the original comic book story The Long Halloween, in which Alberto, refused a place at his father's side in the Gotham Mafia, goes on a Halloween killing spree. He then continues to pop up on various holidays, taking out members of the criminal underworld. He is captured by Bruce Wayne after murdering Sal Maroni.

Tom Wilkinson portrayed Alberto's Mafia chieftain father Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins, which brings this trilogy full-circle. It is not clear at this point how The Holiday Killer will figure into the storyline of The Dark Knight Rises, which also includes villains Catwoman and Bane.

At this time, Christopher Nolan is continuing to fine-tune his script. Production on The Dark Knight Rises is set to begin later this year.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

@slysnide I didn't even think about that! It was a good thing she did leave the Penthouse in TDK.

Cause if she didn't at one point, she'd be like I'm thirsty and so Alfred gets her something to drink. But with an extra ingredient. And that's when things get bad for Rachel.

The next thing Rachel knows is she wakes up the next morning in a tub full of cheese and crackers, wearing a turtle suit with holes cut out in certain places, and she's got a funny taste in her mouth. And she can't help but think "Ole' Al did it again! Why didn't I leave when I had the chance? I guess I'll never learn!"

But the worst part is the World's Greatest Detective doesn't even know his own butler is a serial rapist. What a sad day in Gotham. Lol.

@dex62387: True. After those chefs glared funny at Alf for shoving Rach into the car, he probly figured he might as well go all the way. Ya see that's the real reason she left the safety of the penthouse in "TDK." She sensed it'd get a bit too hot n' heavy with Harvey jailed and no one at her side. :P

@slysnide lol. Maybe she'll play a love interest for TH or JGL. Or maybe the other MC will have a love interest for a change with this new MC. Alfred be robbing the cradle this time around! We all know he probably felt up Rachel in Batman Begins when he put her unconscious body into the car. Alfred the Loyal Butler is also just a dirty old man. Lol. He's just wanting him some tail!

@CBF Also consider that he may not take up that task in the film. He could just be Carmine's replacement with a few homages to "TLH," rather than dishing out a hackneyed version of that storyline. For as you pointed out, the article spoils it either way. Fans who haven't read "TLH" would thus be inclined to do so now anyway. So I doubt he'll take center stage in much of it.

What I wanna know is why MC is still tagged on in the cast with zero confirmation from anybody?

I think he is going to be great in this, the role really suits him. Have never heard of the Holdiay killer, sounds a bit "Jokerish" but hopefully Nolan has changed this.

@dex62387 Very good points (in your spoilers). You are exactly right, that ending is such a brain-twister and it doesn't explain it so it makes you think like that.

  18. CBF

@balanorange The villain's name is Holiday, not "The Holiday Killer." Saying it like that is disrespecting The Long Halloween.

Also this doesn't really ruin the 'entire' graphic novel. There is a surprise ending about Holiday's identity that this article doesn't completely ruin, but yeah, I see what you guys mean. If Holiday isn't in TDKR, and only Alberto is, then yeah, MW just spoiled one of the greatest graphic novels ever.

By the way for the people complaining about how the title of the article and the article itself ruined the graphic novel and whatever else, well get over it!

If they had just made the article title "Joseph Gorden-Levitt role in The Dark Knight Rises Recvealed". You would have opened the article to see if he was cast as the Riddler or whoever only to see that is it Alberto Falcone.

And if they had left the real spoilerish stuff out and just said he'd be playing Alberto Falcone the son of Carmine Falcone from Batman Begins. Most of you would be like "Well who the f*ck is Alberto Falcone and why does Nolan want such a great actor to play a role that seems so&#160insignificant. And why is this character we've never heard of being brought in now?"

And so you'd Google Alberto Falcone and you'd find some article or the wikipedia page and find out for yourself that Alberto Falcone was Holiday. And that he confesses to at least twenty-five holiday themed murders that took place over the course of a year.

Why gripe when you was going to find out anyway? Whether MovieWeb told you or because your curiosity got the better of you. Come on people.

Awesome! I hope Nolan confirms this cause the The Long Halloween was awesome! It was a real great read! I actually just finished reading it a couple of weeks ago. But doesn't the story hint at something else.....

SPOILERS.....SPOILERS......SPOILERS.....SPOILERS......DON'T READ ANY FURTHER OR THE LONG HALLOWEEN MAY BE RUINED A LITTLE MORE FOR YOU!!!!

But in the graphic novel wasn't it Gilda Dent (Harvey Dent's wife) who originally started the Holiday Murders so her husband the District Attorney wouldn't have so much on his plate and so they could finally have children. And Gilda believed that Harvey took the Mantle of Holiday on New Year's Eve. But that wouldn't make a whole lotta sense since the person Harvey "killed" was Alberto Falcone who later confesses to all of the Holiday Murders even the ones that Gilda committed.

But I think Gilda is just a little loopy at the end of the graphic novel. I think she started the murders and then Alberto took over as Holiday after faking his own death.

Either way, but with Alberto assuming the identity of The Holiday Killer Gilda's agenda was still being carried out while Alberto was carrying out his own agenda. They had the same means but to different ends. Gilda to help Harvey lighten his case load so he would have the time to make and care for a child. And for Alberto to show up his father to become more infamous than the Falcone Family Name and his own father Carmine "The Roman" Falcone.

And in becoming a gimmick criminal (like the rest in Arkham), he became a "Freak". Something the Mafia doesn't want anything to do with.

Also in the Graphic Novel Carmine actually hires some of the "Freaks" to aid his cause and also try to find out who is Holiday? He hires Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter. Something his family was against. They wanted nothing to do with the Freaks.

So maybe that's where Bane will fit in the movie, as Hired Help. Who knows....I just know I can't wait for this movie and that I'll be there opening night! And that JGL is gonna rock whatever role he has been cast in in TDKR.
