Tom Hardy is the Black Mask?
Here is what was said about the script :
"The female lead is Talia al Ghul. And Sarah Essen, and Bullock is in the film. Dr. Hugo Strange is the main villain, Black Mask replaces Salvatore Ramoni, and Black Mask recruits Killer Croc as the muscles to take down the bat, Killer Croc is known to be a psychopathic killer with a skin diseased reptile function skinned, who's an expert in hand to hand combat and extremely agile. Oh and that's not a lot of villains because everything ties in perfectly. Let me give you guys a slight summary of how the villains all fit together:
I think Tom Hardy is playing Black Mask. Black Mask is around Bruce's age range, Hardy is in his early thirties."
- Black Mask takes over Gotham's criminal underworld replacing Salvatore Ramoni
- Dr. Hugo Strange is the main villain of the movie
- Talia al Ghul wants revenge on Bruce Wayne
- Killer Croc is just the meathead to takedown the batman
I think Tom Hardy is playing Black Mask. Black Mask is around Bruce's age range, Hardy is in his early thirties."
This news should only be considered rumor at this point. The thing that has piqued our interest is how fast Warner Bros. has removed this supposed script leak information. We will be sure to keep you updated as we get further information.
The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

A few people have missed my point a bit, Nolan could use any villain however big or small and give them as big or small a part in the film as he likes!
Croc for example could be used by the mob to do one job in the film and Batman deals with him, it could mean 10mins of screen time and gives the audience a bit of action to break up the film a bit. Croc might not even be called Croc in the film but proper fans will know who it is.
Lets not forget this is the early years of Batman so it's also the early years for any villain (unless Nolan wants them to be an already established villain).
Oh and I explained that I listed Dent and 2 face separate because of screen time, where Dent had lot's of screen time at the beginning of TDK and 2 Face had lot's in the 2nd part, well that time is easily big enough to cast 2 characters, which is basically what happened.

@IUH: Oh, I shoulda scrolled like, 1 inch. :P
@JAO: Most of the film being in Asia sounds like a bad thing. It aint Batman if it aint in Gotham. With the exception of the origin story where Asia was paramount, as was the Hong Kong sequence in the sequel. But Black Mask & Hugo Strange in Gotham while Batman's screwing around in Asia? Doesn't sound right. He'd need a pretty big lure to go back there, and reminicing about the first film's events via returning to the League of Shadows would only downplay the Strange/Mask storylines.

@IUH: Agreed. They're cast regulars. And I don't know who you were referring to, but if it was me, I wasn't suggesting Dent & Two-Face as being separate villains. Given that Dent isn't a villain anyway, or a tragic one in a sense.

You guys are comparing major villains like the ones above to f*cking easter egg cameos like Zsasz, and generic mob bosses. They're not the same.

I get what @macca-paul-87 is saying. He makes a clear point. In both Batman Beings and TDK, Nolan used more than 4 villains from the comics/graphic novels. So a list like the one above could be plausible in Nolan's world. Zsasz is a villain with a good back story to do with Batman/Bruce, but only had a minute or so screen time in Batman Begins. All I know is, we're all in for another treat, or else Nolan wouldn't be making a third film. Like everyone else, I'm waiting for confirmed word from the director himself.

Seems to weak to be something Nolan would make. Hugo Strange (who BOF just dismissed as being in the film) makeing the fear toxin = Sandman killing Ben Parker. Nolan is too creative for something like that.

@IUH i agree with you, except the burglar is definitely a villain... not the main villain, but a definite side villain

You can't count Two-Face and Harvey as two villains, and the same goes for Crane and Scarecrow. They're not two separate people, it's just one character going through a dramatic change at some point in the film.
I don't really think the generic mob bosses really count as "villains." A villain to me would be someone with a gimmick, other alias, or play a major role in the protagonist's rogues gallery. No one thinks of the burglar who killed Uncle Ben as a "villain" in Spider-Man, just a stepping stone in his evolution as a character.

@ALL: A new story on "Batman News" claims right from WB that the script was never leaked, as they've yet to recieve it themselves. They claimed that they're getting their script in early January (when the actors too claimed they'd be getting their scripts) with an announcement in mid-January.
@Josh: Have you read the "Prey" miniseries? Strange was included in the Batman Task Force to psycho-analyze him as a way of assisting in his capture. He's also holding the same rank as Crane did at Arkham in "Begins," so with Crane a crook now, then Hugo will probably be his replacement and be on such a task force. His obsession with delusional minds however would prompt him (as in "Prey") to dress up as Batman. Pretending and striving to be him in his delusions. Black Mask could reclaim the mob's illegitimate wealth that Lau took in "TDK" as a way of ressurecting Gotham's mob. A side villain at best to demonstrate the reciprocation of crime. I'd bet Strange would be responsible for his company's downfall if that's portrayed in Black Mask's origins (if he gets a backstory at all), or responsible for Black Mask's bizarre 'mask' psyche. Harvey Bullock would make sense as a total anti-batman member of the task force hellbent on finding out who he is. Thus, another tie in, or possibly hellbent on discovering what really happened with Harvey, as undoubtedly people would find it odd for a vigilante to kill Harvey, who kinda represented the same thing, but in a good way.

This seems one villain too much. They say "Strange is the main villain", but then go on to say nothing about where he fits into the film. The overall structure works, but it should be Strange recruiting Black Mask to hunt Batman. This chain of command goes too long. With the exception of Killer Croc, I'm happy with the names being thrown around here, though. I'm glad it's Thalia and Strange who are being mentioned the most, because they to me make the most sense. I really don't want to see Killer Croc or Deadshot or any other one-note villains.

The Croc rumour has been around for a while. I know the old aguement about realism. But If Nolan, went with it I'm sure he'd make it work. Talia, for the love interest would be an interesting plot & would give the trilogy a tie-in moment. Black mask I thing is the more likly of all to be in it, they need the tie to the mobster underworld & I think its a perfect reflection on Batman. A hero who wears a mask & a villain who wears a mask. Hugo Strange, as the man to push Batman all the way? possible. Scarecrow will, no doubt be making an apperance, it would be hard to give them screen time. Either way, I wait for Nolans word. J_A_OTTLEY, When you hear more, let us know. Sounds like you might have inside info

All Villains from both movies some big parts some very minor, my point being that you can have lots of villains and not have to give each one loads of screen time.
13 villains all together in 2 movies, the reason I listed alter ego's separate to their true identity is because if you see a script with Dr. Crane's name on doesn't necessarily mean he becomes Scarcrow, same with Dent, so it's easy to keep characters small and simple rather than each one being the main antagonist.
Correct me if I'm wrong I'm just trying to say lot's of villain names doesn't have to mean lot's of villains.

these are just speculations, even if the the characters are nailed down, there will always be changes iin the forefront. Unless Nolan really wants his script to be in the open this early...and understanding Nolan's MO, it will be his word to give finality from these news going around!

A total rumor but Talia would be a fanboy's delight. Black Mask and Killer Croc are okay choices, I like that Black Mask would take over the underworld, but I just can't see them bringing in Black Mask in this world. Croc would have to be done totally different to fit realistically. I'd rather see Mad Hatter than Croc, and Deadshot would be a better hired gun. And... Ramoni? What a moron.
