The CW Invited Over The Graysons

The CW is prepping the series The Graysons, based on Batman's sidekick Robin before he takes on the caped superhero status.

According to Variety, Smallville exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as Supernatural exec producer McG, are behind project, which has landed a put pilot commitment at the network.

Just as Smallville focused on Clark Kent in the years before he became Superman, The Graysons will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity and aligns himself with Batman.

The Graysons is seen as a potential replacement for Smallville should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated, or it might also make a strong companion piece.

In the one-hour series, which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.

I'm a fan of mostly anything Batman, but I don't see this working well at all.

Might have to put this in the wait and see category

It'll probably introduce some "enemies" to keep it interesting like smallville did in it's first couple seasons(it's like they had a crap "villain of the week" lol), but it won't be nearly as exciting due to it will mostly be about teenage problems, which i deal with in my spare time and don't need to watch "robin b4 he was robin" deal with them on tv, thank you very much

This is lame plus it will be whack because we will just him and his family unlike smallvile it has enemies and this one does not so yeah this idead will blow.

I like smallville, but wtf is this? How are they gonna do a show about dick grayson BEFORE he becomes robin? Who cares about that? I understand smallvilled cuz he arrives on earth as a baby and it's interesting to see him develop his powers as the show progresses, but dick grayson isn't all that interesting b4 batman takes him in

i really don't don't who comes up with these ideas. I could care less about robin let alone his pre-robin years. there are tons of different dc characters to choose from that would be much more exciting to watch.
i think a green arrow spin-off would be cool or even the aquaman would've been awesome.
maybe they could take another shot at the Flash or maybe even green lantern (that could be a mixture of stargate meets startreck meets roswell) i don't know. all i know is there are tons of other characters to choose from not just robin.

Wonder Woman is in development hell right now, SWAK1774. It was suppose to be directed by Joss Whedon and budgeted by Warner Bros., but about a year ago the studio passed a new regulation that states they'd discontinue funding films with female lead roles. It does seem sexist, but studio reps said that the reason was because of low box office numbers for those films. So unfortunately the future of the Wonder Woman movie is up in the air and may be years if it ever takes off from the ground :[ As far as a TV series goes, last year there was Bionic Woman. It started off strong, but it didn't take too long for ratings to plummet, leading to it's cancellation.

I agree with every comment here.

And why not Wonder Woman? If there is a problem making it into a movie, maybe it will work better as a series again.

Or maybe even a live action version of that cartoon Batman Beyond. I used to watch that with my boys.

What are TV producers afraid of doing costumed superheroes series, is it so impossible to maybe see a live action spider-man new series? or a superman a lot better than lois & clark the new adventures of superman!are all de deals reserved only for the big screen? the technology exists to make decent series on our favorite superheroes giving us the chance to expand their legends, not enclosing them in fancy little trilogies

Yeah, that's not a Good Idea at all. I adore the character of Dick Grayson - but he becomes most interesting after becoming Robin - and more importantly, in what he does to get out from under Batman's shadow. A show about Grayson should take place - at the earliest - in the time when Dick has left Bruce.

A story about Clark Kent works, because he has a lot of growing up to do before he becomes Superman. A story about a young Bruce Wayne could work, because his journey to becoming Batman is fascinating. And there are a few other heroes you could make it work with. But Dick's story into becoming a hero starts with the death of his parents.

I'll watch it, but I doubt very much I'll enjoy it.

Just thought of sumthin' guys. If there ever was going to be a Nightwing TV series, I think Milo Ventimiglia would make an ideal Dick Grayson. It's all wishful thinking, but I think he'd fit into the roll quite well.

No, no, no. A show based on Dick Grayson is a good idea, but it shouldn't be about his pre-Robin years. Rather, the show should focus on his Nightwing years! Think about it:

This would work best as a companion/replacement piece to Smallville because Nightwing is a stand-alone hero. Besides, who would honestly watch a show that revolved around a superhero's period of pre-heroism? It'd only work in a comic book. Bottom line to me, it should have been all about Dick Grayson as NIGHTWING. And by the way, why are the exec producers f*gging him up with a name like DJ?
