Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct Relativity Media's remake of The Crow
Fresnadillo is best known for directing 28 Weeks Later, the post-apocalyptic horror sequel to 28 Days Later, which he co-wrote and produced with long-time producing partner, Apaches Entertainment's Enrique López Lavigne. Fresnadillo also directed the critically-acclaimed Spanish-language film Intacto and is currently in post-production on Intruders starring Clive Owen, also being produced by Apaches Entertainment.
Fresnadillo will collaboratively develop the script once a writer is attached to adapt the screenplay. Casting has not yet been announced.
The film is being produced by Edward R. Pressman, Jeff Most, Relativity's CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and Apaches' Enrique López Lavigne and Belén Atienza. Relativity's Tooley (The Fighter) will serve as executive producer. José Ibáñez, Pressman Film Corporation's Jon Katz, and Apaches' Jesus de la Vega will serve as co-producers.
The Crow adaptation will be a reboot of the iconic cult character Eric Draven, who's resurrected as The Crow to avenge his wife's murder so he can reunite with her in the hereafter, as first envisioned by graphic novelist James O'Barr.
"Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is an incredibly talented and imaginative filmmaker," said Tooley. "We are thrilled to have him at the helm and are excited to work with both Pressman and Apaches on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of The Crow."
Producer Edward R. Pressman remarks, "The original Crow was groundbreaking cinema; its gothic visual and musical ideas influenced a generation and cinema itself. With Juan Carlos, we have every confidence that his new Crow will have a similar impact on the contemporary audience."
The Crow is in development . The film is directed by F. Javier GutiƩrrez.

@narrator It might be amazing. Then again, it might not. Just because it feels rich in the middle of the adrenalin rush during a video game does not mean it will translate well into a movie, let alone rank with the greatest of films. Like I said, until it happens I will remain a skeptic. That's not to say that I won't root for it, I just need to see it happen.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@ejk1, I am well aware, as I even said so in my past comment. That's the point of them going back and doing a prequel story for this universe; we have no control over that environment, both in time, and space - it's plot is already cemented.
When you go back and look at over half of the logs, (I haven't got all of them yet), you find that Rapture's story pre-Bioshock is as deep, rich, and as meaningful as the city itself. There are so many political, religious, and individual stories and beliefs in the city, that all lead to its amazing downfall, that were it belonging to a different universe (probably one of literature) it would have been snatched up, and put on the silver screen already.
Were it adapted correctly, with the right director (Fincher, cuaron, etc), we'd see an unforgettable film, nearly on-par with such classics as Citizen Kane (in moral ambiguity and exploration of the weaknesses of men), as well as films like A clockwork Orange (with the boggling, visual wonders of our indecent actions and always to near decent into madness). The setting would be unforgettable, the characters harsh and tragic, and the message as coldly served as the ocean walls themselves. It would be a success in every way, with just a little bit of hard work and passion. Tell me, honestly, that wouldn't be an amazing possibility, given the right director and enough support.

@narrator Sorry, dude, but I don't see it. Not just for Bioshock, but any vid game adaptation. It's hard to replace the bond that we have with the games, because we get to be in control of their actions. The interactivity has yet to be duplicated in any meaningful adaptation. Until I see a great vid game movie, I am going to be skeptical that any can be done.

The Narrator: The Better Man
@ejk1, and @dan1, while the chances of messing up a Bioshock film are extremely high and to be expected (how would we choose what Jack does, or not?), I highly doubt that would happen had the right director been attached. While I am glad that this guy's no longer helming the project (right?), I do hope the studio takes it's potential seriously and looks into a better crew and commander to take it on. Back when Gore was helming the project, many of us had faith in the adaption. With any luck, someone just as responsible and authentic will come to the franchise and prove the fans and skeptics wrong. If they were to do an adaption and it sucked, well I always have the great games (excluding the disappointing second game). No one thought adapting LotR was possible, but here we are. All I'm saying is, a guy can hope.
As @insertusernamehere said, if David Fincher were to direct a Bioshock film that chronicled the rise and fall of Rapture, and all of the events that take place before the first game, with a strong ensemble cast, we'd have a film that would rock the game-adaption genre equivalent to that of TDK's shaking of the comic-book film genre. They wouldn't have to cut the audiences wishes short, and decide whether or not Jack goes one path or the other (which was the fun of Bioshock), because we'd be following an epic and concrete story leading to those events. It'd be a visual masterpiece as only celluloid can deliver. I know, the chances of any of them coming to fruition are 1000 to 1, but I can dream.

This is sad news if i could give this 100 thumbs down i would. The original is a TRUE classic.Brandon Lee bloomed right before our eyes in that film and it took him beyond the son of the greatest action hero, it showed us that could create a charcter and make us forget he was even in the film at all(Heath Ledger-Joker but thats a whole other conversation) and unfortunatly he is no longer with us now :(

@narrator I'm with @ejk1 on that one. BioShock is a great interactive experience, H-Wood would prob screw It up. Some video game to movie adaptations I'm okay with (like Tomb Raider), because the action was more the selling point, so it's easy to form into their own story, but these latter games like BioShock, Uncharted, are more narrative driven. Which is why I never want to see a MGS movie.

Totally unnecessary, which is why Hollywood is going forward.
@narrator Bioshock is probably dead, which should be a good thing. Great games make horrible movies.

Why??! The original is a cult classic, man I am really getting bored of Hollywood's complete LACK of imagination - STOP REMAKING MOVIES! Get an original idea! Grr. I won't watch this on principle. Bah. Show some respect for Brandon Lee - *NEWSFLASH* most of the original fans of this will hate it, so why make it? Tired of cash grab flicks. BAHHH!

When I heard that Norrington was remaking the Crow I was petrified, because I love the original and all I know Norrington is for LXG. But hearing that he left and Fresnadillo is doing instead, if they get someone good to write this, and treat the original with respect, then hopefully we as an audience can have something to look forward to...
