The Covenant Takes The Box Office With $9 Million
Coming in second place, Ben Affleck, Adrien Brody, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, and Robin Tunney in Hollywoodland; the drama debuted with $6 million. The film is about the investigation into the death of the original Superman, George Reeves; Affleck portrays Reeves, while Adrien is a compilation of multiple private investigators looking into whether Reeves committed suicide or was murdered.
Invincible moved down to third place after two weeks at number one. The football drama, and the true story of Vince Papale scored $5.8 million this weekend. That brings its three week total to $45.7 million for the flick starring Mark Wahlberg (Papale) and Greg Kinnear (Dick Vermeil).
Tony Jaa brought his martial arts from Thailand to America in The Protector; the action movie debuted in fourth place and brought in $5 million, says Box Office Mojo. The film has already had its run in Asia, and now it's in the US.
Jason Statham is getting Cranked in fifth place; the non-stop action flick made $4.8 million this weekend. That brings the two week total to $19.9 million. Jason plays a mob hit man who's been fatally poisoned and must keep his adrenaline up in order to stay alive.
The Illusionist came in sixth place with $4.6 million; starring Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel, the flim is about a magician on the run from the police. In its four week run, the drama has made $18.1 million.
In seventh place, the ensemble cast of Little Miss Sunshine; after seven weeks, the film keeps rolling along. This weekend, it made $4.4 million and a total of $41.6 million; the movie stars Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Alan Arkin, Paul Dano, and Abigail Breslin.
Nicolas Cage's remake The Wicker Man took eighth place this weekend with $4.1 million. Neil LaBute directs the horror thriller based off the original 1973 film. In two weeks, it's brought in $17.5 million.
Will Ferrell keeps making people laugh; his comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby finished in ninth place racing in with $3 million. In only six weeks, the comedy has brought in $142.1 million; it also stars John C. Reilly, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Leslie Bibb.
And finally, rounding out the top ten, the animated flick Barnyard; the original party animals brought in $2.6 million over the weekend. That brings the total up to $66.9 million for a six week run.
Next week, The Rock stars in Gridiron Gang; the true story of a man who turned a prison around by starting a football team. The film also stars Xzibit as The Rock's assistant.
Also coming out, The Last Kiss starring Zach Braff, Rachel Bilson, and Jacinda Barrett; the romantic drama is a remake of the Italian film, L'ultimo bacio.
The Black Dahlia, a look at the most horrific murder mystery in Hollywood; another star-studded cast in this film - Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johannson, Hilary Swank, Aaron Eckhart, and Mia Kirshner. The drama/thriller is also directed by Brian DePalma.
Orlando Bloom stars in Haven; held on the shelf for about three years, the drama is a Crash version in the Cayman Islands, written and directed by Frank E. Flowers.
And Aurora Borealis starring Joshua Jackson, Juliette Lewis, and Donald Sutherland; Donald plays a man who is suffering from Parkinson's, and Joshua is his grandson who must face the reality of his imminent future.
The Covenant was released September 8th, 2006 and stars Steven Strait, Laura Ramsey, Sebastian Stan, Taylor Kitsch, Chace Crawford, Toby Hemingway, Jessica Lucas, Kyle Schmid. The film is directed by Renny Harlin.
