Against the turbulent backdrop of post-Civil War Washington, rookie lawyer Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy) reluctantly agrees to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) - the lone woman charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. When his colleagues, friends, and true love begin to desert him, Aiken must rely on Mary's spirited daughter Anna (Evan Rachel Wood) to help piece together the events leading up to the assassination. Facing down the government he fought so heroically to defend, Aiken quickly realizes Mary may be innocent and that she is being used as bait in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped the massive manhunt: her own son, John. Unwilling to incriminate her boy, Mary refuses to cooperate as Aiken seeks to defend her by building his case against John. With time running out, Aiken puts everything on the line in order to convince a bloodthirsty nation - and Mary, herself - to do what is right. But will this be enough to prevent the U.S. government and its people from flouting principle and exacting revenge?

The Conspirator was released April 15th, 2011 and stars Robin Wright, James McAvoy, Evan Rachel Wood, Alexis Bledel, Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, Norman Reedus, Kevin Kline. The film is directed by Robert Redford.

This looks just okay. I agree with @Dave's original statement. It does look like a history channel reenactment.

@Daveactor - Yeah, they did a good job with Book of Eli. Although, as good a job as they did, they tweaked the look and tone of the film so much in the color grading process that it was damn near impossible to tell what camera they shot it with.....which is awesome.

@The Narrator - Yeah, up until now films that shot with RED used the RED ONE, TSN being one of many.
Now Spider-Man and The Hobbit will be filming.....or shooting with the RED EPIC, which has a much bigger sensor and hopefully a more "film-ish" look to it. Either way, I have confidence in Andrew Lesnie, the DP and, of course, Peter Jackson to make The Hobbit look fantastic.

I'm both anxious and nervous to see the look of the new Spiderman film to see how the results turn out.

April? Seems like September fare. It probably won't be all that great, but this type of stuff fascinates me. Robert Redford is far too gushy a director. He focuses more on visual passion that working with characters, but it should be pretty good.

  10. The Narrator: The Better Man

@K-Man, I know The Book of Eli was shot with Red Cameras, as is the upcoming Spidey Reboot and The Hobbit films (using the epic). Wasn't aware, however, that TSN was shot using Red Cameras. I'm impressed that they made the film looks so good. But as you said, that is a rarity, and this film isn't the exception to that rule.

@Daveactor7 & Narrator - Here we go again, round two! Digital vs. Film. Although, hopefully POTC4 wont be posting this time to give us his input.

This was shot digitally......thats why it looks like a flashback sequence from the discovery channel aka complete and utter crap. It SHOULD look like friggin Gangs of New York but it doesn't.

What a tragedy. Anyone who says digital isn't ruining cinema is an idiot. Until it is perfected, which it still has a long way to go, I say keep it out of major blockbusters. Only independent filmmakers who cant afford a high budget should be using it until that day.

I will, however, admit that with a truly exception director & DP, the results can look pretty decent on the RED cameras (ex. Social Network), but thats a rarity these days.
