The Bourne Supremacy sells 5 million units
An even bigger hit than its predecessor, "The Bourne Supremacy" opened theatrically in July 2004 to over $52 million, going on to gross $176 million domestically. That same week, "The Bourne Identity Explosive Extended Edition" was the top-selling DVD in America, ultimately selling over 1 million units this year, making it the biggest live-action re-promote of 2004. The original "Bourne Identity," when released in home entertainment, set its own record as the #1 rental title of 2003. The franchise further demonstrated its enduring popularity with a recent airing on USA Network of "The Bourne Identity" -- this airing ranked as the top-rated movie on cable this year among adults 18-49.
"This confirms 'Bourne's' status as one of the most popular spy franchises of all time," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. "'The Bourne Supremacy's' first week sales blew away those of all spy thrillers, including those in the Bond and 'Mission Impossible' franchises."
The blockbuster spy thriller stars Academy Award®-winner Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox and triple Oscar-nominee Joan Allen. "The Bourne Supremacy" DVD expands on the theatrical version with over an hour of bonus features including deleted scenes and exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the film's creators, cast and state-of-the-art visual effects.
