I just reread the screenplay, and to all those who think this looks predictable, or feel as if they have already seen the film in two minutes, you are ENTIRELY wrong.

THIS should have been Gibson's return role. Not edge of darkness :P

People complain about remakes then as soon as something original comes out they slate it!

    Doesn't make any sense.

All I know is I adore and have enjoyed both Mel and Fosters movies in the past (including their last collaboration Maverick), and this looks to be a touching drama. So of course I'll be there. And if it goes over well, then maybe Mel's Viking epic will get under way :)

Definetly @Dave, but I am afraid people will write this off because of his behavior. It looks grear, I mean Foster, Gibson, Lawrence, Yelchin. It has a great cast and a good story. I'm looking forward to it.

@Wich agreed. Also Mel could have used that mistake into his acting. I mean in this film he's portraying a troubled man and Mel Gibson in real life is a troubled man so that is a great reference there.

The screenplay was phenomenal - especially as I expected a screwball comedy. Sucks Mel Gibson's antics stalled the release (originally set for the holidays); the script was and the acting looks to be nothing short of Oscar worthy.

I'm going to see this. I think he is a great actor, despite his personal life. Everyone makes mistakes, and surely he has learned from his most recent one. I will be giving him and this movie a chance :)

the first half of the trailer you can't help but wonder how much art is imitating life in this story. i hope for his sake (anyone's sake going through rock bottom) he's able to find restoration and redemption (sans the Beaver, though).
as for the movie, as eerie as it is to see this quasi-parallel story it seems very interesting and i think i'll be checking it out based on its own merits as an engaging film.

Mel has made mistakes the last decade but he's not an evil man, and he deserves another chance.

TFR. Why must there be an obligatory need for movies like this to be "feel good." Just make it a comedy and it would be infinitely better off.
