Downtown Cleveland became a war zone for The Avengers
Cleveland was turned into New York and Germany for the production. Co-producer Jeremy Latcham revealed that this half of the movie couldn't have gone any smoother, and that he was incredibly happy with the way things worked out. This is what he had to say.
"It was great to see (the locals) come out every day. They took tons of pictures and put them up on the Internet, which is just great. Cleveland has been amazing. We wanted a real street feeling to the scenes, and we got that."
Even though quite a bit of footage has been captured by the locals featuring various scenes that will be seen in the movie, not much about the plot is known at this point. Some of The Avengers were spotted fighting stunt actors in motion-capture suits, which are believed to be the Skrulls. For this portion of filming, Downtown's East Ninth Street was turned into a war zone.
It is also being reported that Scarlett Johansson shot secret scenes at an old warehouse on Ashland Road near Longfellow Avenue, off Cedar Road near the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. Neither Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark) nor Mark Ruffalo were needed for this portion of the production, but Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Chris Evans's Captain America made their presence well known around town and in many fan videos that eventually found their way to the internet.
Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@mickeymiami i bet they make more on future films booking films there than they made on Avengers. getting such positive praise from such a big action movie will only get them more attention for future films (especially since they managed to turn Cleveland into NYC and Germany!). sky's the limit for Clevelandwood now (or shall we call it "Midwest Hollywood)!
**For the record, if my prediction is right, I coined the phrase "Clevelandwood" and "Midwest Hollywood" first! :-) lol **
