Mark Ruffalo says his Hulk in The Avengers will have a hairy chest
Mark Ruffalo is gearing up to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, which starts production later this summer. It seems one thing the actor won't have to do is shave his chest for the role. The producers of Captain America: The First Avenger asked Chris Evans to shave his chest for his shirtless scenes, though it doesn't seem they are going in the same direction with Hulk in The Avengers. Here's what Mark Ruffalo had to say below.

"No one has asked me to shave my chest yet, thank God. They want this Hulk to be as close to me as possible. I'll be playing him in motion-capture, so this Hulk will just be a bigger avatar version of me. As they're modeling him, they're using many of my own features, down to my scars and wrinkles. He will have body hair, but I don't know to what extent."

It will be interesting to see what this motion-captured Hulk will look like, chest hairs and all, when The Avengers hits theaters on May 4, 2012. Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers from a screenplay by Zak Penn.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

at least they're doing a realistic approach, with his facial features including chest hairs. Reminds of Watchmen in which Dr. Manhattan is anatomically correct with Billy Crudups actual body. Or was that a rumor? lol

@ignitedspade Well, "manliness" is as much a social construction as "femininity". It's acceptable and even expected for women to shave their bodies, but men shouldn't? Those kind of limitations are the troubling norms that force people into false gender binaries.

But I agree that IMO men with body hair are far more attractive.

I don't even know why men would want to shave their chest in the first place. Maybe to feel less manly? I hate how the media has made it so that men look like boys now.

A lion isn't a lion without his mane. Just sayin'.

@skywise hahaha, true. he reminds me of stephen king almost. king can write a great story, but cannot right a third act, at all, and millar can write a great story but just a very bitter ending. with WANTED as the exception.

@combatmadness360 then i think you will be pleased with his work on the Hulk. And i agree his ending for Big Daddy (not the death but the final twist) was lame and did not make sense. Plus i really wanted kick ass to get the girl but...being mark miller and the tone of the book, Kick Ass's ending didnt surprise me.

@skywise Mark Miller is a fantastic writer. although I hated the way he ended kick ass, I loved that series. and WANTED is still my favorite graphic novel of all time!!

@combatmadness360 BTW that Old Man Wolvie story s written by the same guy who did the Planet Hulk (which they have a pretty decent animated movie) and World War Hulk (hoping that movie is in the works). Mark Miller. Love him or hate him he usually stirs the pot.

@combatmadness360 haha even after reading it, its still hard to imagine that the story was green lit. I am also asuming that its taking place in one of the "many" possible futured of the Marvel universe...there are so many who can keep track.

@bawnian-dexeus I just got back in to reading comic books after 20 years or something of no interest. It was the Walking Dead that did it then i went back and revisted my favs from when i was a kid. Its been fun to go back with an adult mind and look at those stories in a different light.

@combatmadness360 It sounds bizarre i know but its neat cuz by now Wolvie is the last X Man and its a shocker on how they all died. I wont ruin it for you but its worth the price of admision alone.

@skywise yeah, it doesn't get much deeper than mutant incest.......but I do see what you mean. especially with a character like hulk, you really have to depend on the emotion of the character, considering he doesn't exactly talk.

@combatmadness360 Red Hulk also gives off actual gamma rays making him very deadly. Its been suggested that this Hulk is actually another character...its sort of a mystery to me..i havnt read any new hulks in quite a while. The last Hulk i read was actually Old Man Wolverine in which Hulk has incest with She-Hulk and have retarded hulk offspring that rule the west coast....weird but true.

It more of a wolvie story and a damn good one.

@combatmadness360 There is also a yellow one too but i'm getting out of my league a bit here. To be honest i was never much of a hulk fan but every now and then some writers come around with great stories for the big guy.

But if your interested Planet Hulk and World War Hulk and its immediate aftermath are pretty great.

  29. The Boondock Saint

@skywise lol, I dont know where I come up with these things (slides book of clever lines under pillow.) so he kind of has these levels of emotions that is almost a color coded kind of thing, right? Like, Grey is weak but calm, intelligent. Green is almost mindless, blind. and Red is Pure anger, rage, a whole knew person. So kind of like his sanity level as well?

@combatmadness360 I havnt read a lot of old Hulks but there are times i remeber when he was stuck as Grey hulk but had the mind and intelligence of Banner...but just couldnt get back to Banner form. But againm, Grey Hulk is the weakest so even tho he retained his mind he still got his ass kicked from time to time.

LOL moood ring. That is funny.
