The Avengers 2 will assemble a new team roster
IGN was on the scene, where they got the following quote after asking Kevin Feige if The Avengers 2 would be introducing new superheroes into the Marvel Film universe.
"Absolutely. That's the fun of it. Introducing new characters. Seeing: 'How will things change after Iron Man goes through his next adventure? After Thor goes through his next adventure? If we do another Cap adventure, how will things change? The dynamic between them? Their own worlds? So that the dynamic in The Avengers 2 is actually quite different than it is in the first one."
When asked how The Avengers 2 will tie into Iron Man 3, he had this to say.
"(It will lead into) what we refer to as Phase Two of this Avengers Assemble talk, which will lead to The Avengers 2. (Iron Man 3) will be a part of that"."
Other superheroes that could possible show up, who have been a part of The Avengers team in the past, include Ant-Man (who is set to get his own stand-alone film), his wife The Wasp, Quicksilver, The Scarlet Witch, her husband Vision, Black Panther (also rumored to get his own stand-alone movie), Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, War Machine, Moon Knight, Captain Britain, Luke Cage, and Doctor Strange.
Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.
The Avengers 2 comes to theaters in 2015.

AFTER the avengers...yes Iron man 3...Thor 2 and hopefully Cap 2...obv. leading up to the avengers 2 wit new characters...AFTER the avengers 2...they should do independent films for the new characters like Ant Man or whoever will be new!...Then After they all get their own films...Avengers 3 the last n final 1 with ALL THE CHARACTERS!...ironman...thor...cap...hulk...hawkeye....black widow...ant man...strange...whoever!! for the epic battle!

The only ones i agree with you one are Don Cheadle as War Machine, and Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider. But, i don;t think they'll be in the Avengers 2.

@rufio He may not, but if Iron Man 3 is the first film (like Iron Man 1 was the first film), Marvel may just piggyback off that for launching Avengers 2. You know? Just using story elements from Black's movie to set up where they want to go in Avengers 2. Like @jayaottley said, if they set up Mandarin in IM3 (as a stand-alone story), they could just expand on that in the films that come after.
Here's hoping for Black Panther, Scarlett Witch (Christina Hendricks FTW!), and Quicksilver.

So....does this mean that Iron Man 3 will be a spin-off to "The Avengers: Phase Two"? Sorta like how Thor was an Iron Man 2 spin-off in which it continued Coulson's story line from IM2. I just hope Marvel doesn't make too many superhero movies to include those new heros into anAvengers movie. Things might get more complicated when you have Thor sequels and Captain America sequels with Iron Man sequels mixing in with Avengers movies, and new films like Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange movies.

don't get me wrong - this is some pretty sweet news! but my only question is: i thought shane black said he had no intention of making an installment of IM that was attached directly to the Avengers? if i recall, he said he wanted to make IM3 darker and its own stand alone film without feeling restricted/tied to the Avengers universe (other than what needed to be for continuity sake)?

@red-ruddy of course they are making an Avengers 2. Now I think the title should be called "New Avengers".
As far as the superheros Black Panther is long over dew cuz he's been mentioned in Iron Man II and they been working on the film for years. Wesley Snipes was suppost to play him, but played Blade instead. Doctor strange, and AntMan also need a movie. But they can't do Ms Marvel cuz Fox still owns Xmen. So dats not happening yet.

Marvel is doing a great job of incorporating their superhero universe into the movies. They aren't over saturating the market with 100 and 1 heroes at the same time. They are taking heir time and mixing new characters with familiar characters. I'm quite sure in Avengers 2, they'll mix some of the old heroes with some of the new. And then eventually give those new heroes their independent films (based on how well the audience connected with them). Don't be surprised if you DON'T see a Black Widow or Hawkeye movie if the audience don't respond to them well in the upcoming Avengers flick.

They should give each Avenger that they plan on using in the future, their own stand alone film. that way we won't have to focus too much on characters backstories and we will have a better connection with the characters. It seems like for The Avengers 2, they are just throwing in random characters which will make the movie feel clustered.
