Dimension Films and Miramax today announced the production of The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes. This is the first film to be produced under the agreement between Miramax and The Weinstein Company to create sequels to some of Miramax's best-known properties.

Dimension also announced that it has acquired the rights to a new screenplay for the film by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Farrands and La Scala are also set to direct the film. Production will commence this summer with a release date scheduled for January 27, 2012. The announcement was made today by Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC), and Mike Lang, CEO of Miramax.

The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes showcases the events after the time of the original The Amityville Horror book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976. An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror ... only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.

"We are thrilled to return to the mythology of The Amityville Horror with a new and terrifying vision that will satisfy our existing fans and also introduce an entirely new audience to this popular haunting phenomenon," said Bob Weinstein.

The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes is being produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Blum has previous experience with found footage films having produced Paranormal Activity 1 and 2, which have grossed close to $400 million worldwide.

The Amityville Horror stories are based on events in the life of George Lutz. The Amityville Horror project is one of several sequel or development projects that Miramax and TWC are currently collaborating on.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Bob to reinvent one of the all-time great horror franchises, and I think this new installment will really hit home with a new generation of moviegoers," said Jason Blum.

The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes was released in 2012. The film is directed by Casey La Scala, Daniel Farrands.

If i was making a film that deals with The Amityville Horror, i would grab acouple of guys, cameras, and go to the actual house where they say..it all happened (if thats even true) And watever is captured on tape..there ya go.. but chances r u wont c sh*t for the whole 90mins. u know why? cause my movie will b IN REAL TIME. not make-belive, but people dont wanna c a movie like that, they wanna jump and b scared there4, thats why movies r made the way they r, so they can keep u from falling asleep, so they throw in watever spooky thing they can think of.

Movies are fun to watch. Most make your time well worth it, sum suck, while others deliver on its promise. But when they start cramin up the whole "BASED ON A TRUE STORY, TRUE EVENT, WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE..IS REAL. thats when u know hollywood is full of poops! If anything..if ur gonna show us sumthing that really happened then show us, but dont make a movie and show us how it happened. we wanna c real ufos, not makeup cgi, So again.. movies r great but none ARE REAL..

It's a movie, it's make believe, so who cares if the story isn't for real. Does Thor really exist? Is Superman for real? Is Bella & Edward really in love....okay who gives a frogs fat ass about them two, but you get my meaning.

Why even bother, I've seen stories on TV and on the Internet claiming that ghost stuff didn't really happen to the Lutz family when they moved in after the DeFao murders. Its been found George Lutz couldn't afford the payments on the house so he and his lawyer came up with the "ghost" story to sell a book and film to make money to sell off the place. Also it was discovered after the so called "28 th day" they left in fear of the house the family held a yard sale to sell stuff for money. Even the current home owners have been saying for years that house is not haunted and never has been. Only problems they have are stupid people bugging them thinking the house is haunted that they have changed the house's look and number to keep people away. Hollywood needs to stop bringing up this story and re-making the film cause it just causes brainwashed fools thinking the place is really haunted when its not.

On a serious note... Nobody makes horror like they used to. it doesnt help that we have sum very good technology these days, compared to 20 yrs ago. and not even that can save a writer/director from fukin up a movie. and i mean that in a nice way. horror films r meant for adults, or anybody who can go see 1 w/out their mommy & daddy, there4,.. keep them scary,, gory, nudity (if needed), bloody, and creepy..period, not pg13, just to make the tees happy. Directors should know by now that..when ur dealing w horror, to keep it that way, not trim them down for younger viewers, that's like making a 2 hour ninja turtle movie w/out having fighting in it, it just doesnt work that way. So if any.. this movie better b worth it. other wise.. DIRECT-2-DVD

Why would we need a writer if this already umm "happened" its a lost tape. there4, it doesnt need writing., OH WAIT.. so that means this is not an actual tape then?, its just footage of watever sumbody will write about. and make it seem like its the actual tapes & a true story...ok now i get it, blah. Havnt we already seen haunted ghost movies like this b4? ghost movies r not really scaRY ANYMORE., everybody knows by now, lock ur doors, ur windows, dont talk to strangers, boogeyman under the bed, Vampires.. hate daylight zombies..shoot them in head, what else am i missing? LOL oh yea.. haunted homes, lets move in... psh.

I love ghost stories but this found footage thing is killing me! Enough is enough. I mean, it can be effective at times but now we are seeing movies pop up like that "romance found footage" film with Quinto. Rediculous is the word that comes to mind.

The first film was solid as was the remake, this one sounds like it might work with the P A flavor added, then again it might not.

Loved the movie from 2005 with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George.

I think that is enough Amityville Horror for my part.
