The Amazing Spider-Man takes in $7.5 million from midnight showings
The Amazing Spider-Man finally swung into theaters at midnight last night, taking in an impressive $7.5 million from the 12:01 AM screenings. The tally is on par with the last incarnation of the webbed wonder, Spider-Man 3, which went on to break box office records with a $151 million opening weekend back in May 2007.

Sony Pictures rolled out director Marc Webb's superhero reboot in 3,150 theaters last night, a healthy portion of the 4,318 theaters it opens in starting today. The action-adventure has already made a splash at the international box office, taking in $50.2 million in 13 overseas markets.

Since The Amazing Spider-Man is opening on a Tuesday, it likely won't break any three-day opening weekend records, but it should pull in a healthy total over the holiday weekend.

Be sure to check back Sunday to see how The Amazing Spider-Man fared at the box office.

The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

    yeah, it sucks when 3 successful movies that made 2.5 billion dollars just get shoved aside because a studio wants more and to save their copyrights
    I mean really, was the 3rd movie so God awful that it warranted a reset?
    they said the same thing about 'Phantom Menace' and yet the franchise continued
    I really want to see Vulture on the big screen still
    I hate this, the rest of the summer and my life is gonna be hard knowing that I live in a world where my love for Spider-Man on the big screen is completely destroyed

    @moviegeek - Oh, I know it. It's been a sucky summer for me :P

    @jonspidey07 - Good post, and you make good points. Hollywood politics aside, so long as a great story is delivered, that's all that matters to me. Since I thought the Raimi films were collectively "okay," and did it's best to bring Spidey to the screen for the first time (like Burton's Batman, which I liked, but those pale in comparison to Nolan's), I'm willing to give the new a shot :P

    I really enjoyed the film but my buddy who's a diehard Spider-Man fan hated it. I'm a Batman guy myself but Spider-Man is my number 2 fav. The acting in this one was outstanding, Garfield, Stone and Leary were all great. I think there was some room for improvement in a few areas but nothing that hurt the film really. Bring on the sequel(s)!

    I just saw it a couple hours ago and I must say i'm one of those people who didn't like the film. I enjoyed the Actors, the action scenes and the emotion it brought on occasion but i just couldn't like the film. Funny enough Spiderman 2 is currently playing on FX. haha

    @diaigma fail, man. It was awesome. There are so many haters. I don't know where people got the idea that the original Spider-Man movies were somehow Dark Knight quality. All of the original three movies had their faults.

    @thedude1 I think they're hoping to get some Transformers numbers with this one. The original transformers opened also on July 3, which was a Tuesday, and made $155 mil in 6 days. I think Spidey will net less than that, but not by too much.
