The Amazing Spider-Man kicks off a new trilogy
The Amazing Spider-Man brings the webbed wonder back to the big screen with a new take on Peter Parker's origin story. We already know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in the works, although now we have word that Columbia Pictures is planning a trilogy. Take a look at this post from the movie's official Facebook page.

"It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."

This confirms what director Marc Webb said back in April, that the mystery surrounding Peter Parker's parents will unfold throughout multiple sequels, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. We also reported in April that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have signed on to write the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It isn't known yet if Marc Webb will return to direct the second and third installments of this new trilogy.

The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

@narrator -- I don't think I've read any valid complaints. Most of them were "the main character is too whiny; he should just get over it", and things like that. When I read those comments, I was like "Wow, really? If only it were that simple". If you're going to base an entire movie based on a characters personality/motives, you really need to get over yourself. I also hate it when people rate movies based on entertainment value or scriptwriting alone. It's absolutely ridiculous!

Oh, definitely, @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx. I fully agree with your statement to thedude-abides, in that it was, "by far, the best romantic comedy I have ever seen". I know it hit similar notes for @dan1 and @corey, so I doubt it's just a minority of men who loved the film. The thing that irks me is when 'hipster' detractors of the film go at its flaws immediately, or how they mutter on about it's supposed lack of originality. All of this because the feature took off in the independant scene and was no longer as 'hipster' as they'd like it to be. Asshats. :P

@thedude-abides, yeah, we'll see. For now, TDKR is calling the both of us. ;)

@thedude-abides -- Absolutely! I personally thought "An Education" was also a good one, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as "(500) Days of Summer". (500) Days of Summer is, by far, the best romance/comedy I have ever seen. It was that good, or I didn't see enough romantic comedies. Maye both?

@narrator -- Glad to see you liked it just as much - if not more - than I. I literally became partially obsessed with the movie, and tried to personalize my online accounts/sigs to almost anything pertaining to the movie.

2009 was such a great year for movies..

@pjwolsker I always considered Shocker to be a low tier enemey. Like the first villian you fight in a Spiderman game but he is always coming back for more. Tenacious little S.O.B.

Thanks, @thedude-abides. Of most of the people on this site, you're definitely one of the most level headed on things. And I can see how that might be ironic, but they designed this film as part of a trilogy, so that tagline "the untold story" may yet reign true throughout the trilogy, if not immediately. Let me go on record to say I hated that first poster and tagline (with Spidey clinging to the wall with a shadow of a spider coming from the silhouette). Lol.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx, I was fortunate enough to see (500) Days of Summer online after I just missed it's limited run at my local theatre. I instantly fell in love with it, and it's become quite the indie charmer since then. I know it really hit home for me, due to prior relationships, so I definitely consider it an immediate favorite. Kudos for reminding me to re-watch my dvd of the film.

    @bawnian-dexeus and @corey, agreed.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx I have it in my top 10 of 2009 at number 8, I think -- which is a pretty big accomplishment, lol.

I think it's a fantastic movie. I gave it a solid 3 outta 4. Very unique and charming, like you said. Probably the best romantic comedy of the past decade.

@thedude-abides -- I actually watched it on one of those premium movie channels, but that was a while ago. Oh, definitely. It's a really good movie! It has its share of cheese, but it's such a unique, charming movie.

@corey Ugh, I know that feeling all too well. We typically don't get anything I'm interested in in my area. I'm sure you'll find it well worth the wait :)

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Not yet. I was actually planning on it before Moonrise Kingdom made its way here. Now I'll probably redbox it or wait 'till it hits HBO.

@thedude-abides It honestly isn't playing ANYWHERE near me. I haven't had so much trouble finding a movie since 500 Days of Summer came out. But believe me, when I finally did find the film it was WORTH IT! Once I hunt down MK, I hope I have the same experience with it.

@corey There was never any danger of that. I know u and I are friends. Anyway, you're probably right, although I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

I'm surprised you haven't seen it yet since it's got Edward Norton in it, and, ya know, since you see every movie that hits theaters, lol.

@thedude-abides Cool, glad we didn't let that little tidbit get between us. It's crazy how little of comments can span out into a full-out war on this site. Good thing we respect each other. :) I doubt you'll enjoy this one though haha! I am, however, looking forward to Moonrise Kingdom thanks to your review.

I thought ASM was a very good movie. It was better than the first Spider Man but they left out several scenes in the trailer and Parker and Connors relationship felt rushed. The first part was set up fine but the last 45 minutes seemed way too rushed. I like the mystery with Osborn and his parents. Part 2 should shape up nicely. They will have to introduce MJ and JJJ at some point and end the love story with Gwen. All in all I give ASM 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's beautiful in IMAX 3D.

The Amazing Spider-Man was an excellent film, a reboot that hits similar beats as the original, but manages to stay fresh. I hope 2 will have Goblin and the death of Gwen Stacy and maybe introduce Eddie Brock, MJ, and JJJ/The Daily Bugle. The third could then involve Venom and maybe Doc Oc or some other villain (don't just want to be the same villains as in Raimi's trilogy) while Spider-Man uncovers the full truth about his parents (maybe SHIELD, if Sony and Disney can come to an agreement?).

@corey No worries, man. I know you're passionate about this one. I just felt like I was incurring the brunt of your wrath for a comment I made that was based off the opinions of others. I haven't even seen the film, so I really don't have an opinion, but I understand your frustration with hearing the same criticism over and over, fair or unfair. Regardless, no hard feelings. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much :)
