The Amazing Spider-Man Concept Art Further Reveals the Lizard!

First we saw the Pez Dispenser, now we get what is presumed to be an official piece of concept art revealing Rhys Ifans's The Amazing Spider-Man villain, The Lizard. This is confirmed to be what the character actually looks like from reports stemming out of this past year's Comic-Con. Surely, Sony will be releasing their own official photo of the mutated man-beast soon, to combat these inernet leaks. Until then, check out this painting below.

The Amazing Spider-Man Concept Art of The Lizard

The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

@jay.A.Ottley I don't care how much Marc Webb pumps up this movie with his descriptions of not doing the fan boy style. Give me a movie that lives up to Spider Man 2, the best Spiderman film. Other than that he's a failure.

Ok guys i've been gone for a couple of days and i can see this has caused quite a debate, while many of you have made fairly good point. I'd thought i'd join in the debacle to thrown my cents in the well.

In terms of the lizard we all know and love, to be honest, this is the best form of the Lizard we could possibly ask for, why?

In generalisation we need to remember Marc Webb is trying to craft his own vision of Spiderman and drifting away from the fan boy fantasy versions that Sam Raimi created and possibly trying taking it in the same direction that Nolan took Batman.

Also Marc Webb likes to evoke emotion within his characters. Now ask the question... Could you feel sympathy for a man that evolves into the lizard we all know and love without finding it a tad bit cheesy?
While we would probably feel more sympathy for a man that transforms into a lizard that is not a monster but yet still a man.

As well as the human features, this has reasoning, its done like that because they are using motion-capture, in which the more human the subject looks the more control the human has over the motion-captured subject. Yeah we could go with the Lizard we all know and love but doing that it would majority be CGI and probably look ridiculous and spoil the dark gritty feel, Webb is aiming for.

All don't forget this is just a concept art, and yes while he may look like this in the final product, and in termsof motion capture and creating the most realistic Lizard incarnation for the big screen, this is probably as best it's going to get merging live-action with motion capture and CGI to annihilate the aspect of Lizard looking ridiculous in the final product

The like to dislike ratio is unanimous but it seems like most people don't approve... No need for bold predictions @sivielsidze I can promise you this isn't the Lizard you'll see in the film, or atleast a version that we'll see for more than 5-10 minutes.

@sivielsidze Ah, but there's the rub. Your picture is of a 2D variety. The filmmakers have to come up with the best representation that will stay as true to the source material as well as be believable on-screen. Sometimes this is highly successful (Joker in TDK, a film character that is somewhat different than the comic counterpart, mind you), sometimes debatable (Green Goblin in Spider-Man), and of course, that which is just awful (Bane in Batman & Robin). I understand that this is a touchy subject for some, but to not give a potentially good film a chance because of a difference in the characters look seems like folly.

I changed my picture to represent how we all know and love the lizard, this is to pay tribute to the Lizard we all grew up to really love. I vote to keep it the same, it that concept art is the lizard in the movie this will be the first marvel movie I will officially pass on seeing in the theaters. No love from me Im sick of it.

Google search images and type the lizard, the first ten you see pop up, thats the lizard we all know and love

    @ejk1

Thats the lizard we all know, you dont need a freggin concept art, its already done, use it! use the millions of great stories already done. You wonder why the economys taking dump after dump is because we spent billions of dollars that go to making junk like the concept art above.

Honestly thats a really tough question, really tough. Especially when you are talking about a movie that stemmed from a comic book, a graphic novel that was visually appealing to the eye along with a great climax/story. Marvel has tons and tons of great stories, thats already there, just use what they already have done. But do they, nope, they spend a ton of money on new writters who dont know one story from the next with spider man. So they use all the money and the creativity goes out the window, and now we are left with images like this above, the concept are that looks exactly like the darn coupas from mario brothers. I hope that answers your question @ejk1

@sivielsidze Venom's main problem were that 1) Raimi didn't want him in, and 2) Topher Grace, who's a skinny SOB, played him. They needed someone bulky to make the costume appear larger. As for your disappointment in the looks of the characters, well that's something you have the ability to control. You can let that color your judgment of the whole film, or recognize that the way these characters look is only a part of the final product. Let me pose this question to you (this is a theoretical, as if these were your only options. We both know that they really aren't): What do you prefer, perfect looking costumes accompanied by a substandard story, or a great story accompanied by substandard costumes?

No Baine looks awesome, I trust that director. I would have like to see a Baine like the one from Arkham city. I am praying this is just a transformation ejk1, but so far we got the pez and now we got the concept art, thats not being level headed its realistic. Besides I was trying to be possitive about the whole thing, after watching the trailder I was very optomistic, but the spiderman face just isn't doing it for me, I still love the entire cast they got so far. But his face mask could be much better, I just dont like his eyes. There are very important components to make an amazing super hero movies, one being, THE CHARACTERS! And so far I'm not sold on the hero or the villain, really looks like another disappointment. And trust me when I tell you this, I PRAY, you are the one telling me I told you so, because God knows I'd love being that person. Idiots said the venom from Spider man three was just a early transformation, look how that turned out. God please bring me a good spider man movie, oh boy, at least we have batman and the avengers to look forward too!!! THANK YOU LORD

Many here have echoed what I said yesterday in the PEZ dispenser article about this possibly being a incomplete transformation. You are the level headed. But I really love reading how because this doesn't look how YOU wanted, the story's gonna suck, and the film will bomb. There isn't a lab coat in the leaked concept art photo? THE HORROR! OH, THE HORROR! Because this one moment in time is representative of the whole film, right? Yeah. What is hilarious to me is that some of the complainers here are also ones that keep saying, "Man Of Steel is gonna be awesome!" even though there is more evidence of something being wrong with that film than this one.

That is so very lame, I couldnt wait to get off work to give my two cents. That half real half fake looking lizards going to make this movie bomb. Made me sick when I saw it, I love spider man as much as Stan Lee, and I cant believe he let this slide threw. What idiots do they have sitting around saying this is a great idea, what retards get to make these decisions. VERY DISSAPOINTED!!! If this is the direction they are going dont fgn bother showing me a sequel.
