DreamWorks Pictures has set Brett Ratner to direct the long-gestating adaptation of The 39 Clues.

We first reported on this project back in September 2008, when screenwriter Jeff Nathanson was hired to adapt this young adult novel series. At the time, it was being developed as a possible vehicle for Steven Spielberg to direct. Now Jeff Nathanson will reunite with Brett Ratner, who directed Tower Heist from Jeff Nathanson's script.

The story centers on the Cahill family, the most powerful family in the world, and the interactive book series offers clues to how they became so powerful. Scholastic Books developed the series into a multi-platform franchise, with trading cards, websites, and other online games which tie into the story as well. The 11th book installment was recently published, after the series' initial launch in 2008.

No production schedule was given for The 39 Clues.

The 39 Clues comes to theaters in 2014. The film is directed by Brett Ratner.

@spongebob-boxofficepants his Red Dragon was lacking what the original Manhunter had bucketloads of...Heart. I find his work to be solid yet souless. Its like he just doesnt get the significance and undedrstanding of the characters he creates on screen.

maybei am being to hard on the man but again its just my opinion...which i know is worthless in the larger scheme of things.

I am anti Ratner. I dont know how this man keeps getting jobs..he muyst be a cheap Hollywood whor*. That or the average movie goer who couldnt care less about the behind the scenes trappings are shelling out the money to see his mediocre productions. You know what they say, money talks.

I cant stand the guy and i might be a bit biased for what he did to my beloved X Men franchise but it is what it is and guess what i say...SO BE IT.

I will be skipping ALL of his movies however and its not just the horrid X Men: The Last Stand but so much of his other work. As a producer, i give it to the guy...he is good at what he doese but as a director he is the king of mediocrity (i know thats redundant but there it is all the same) and quite the hack IMO.
